Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

Weird article. It is not described how the parties "joined forces". It was a proposal by Greens and Left, the right wing groups were not talked to AFAIK. They merely voted for the proposal how should the Greens and Left heve prevented that?

The vote taken yesterday, marked another moment when the far-right and the far-left in the European Parliament united to oppose decisions taken by the mainstream parties.

And then they don't bring examples. How am I now to check if the moments the article refers to are not other incidents of right wingers just voting with the Left against centre parties?

There is little to no substance to the claim of "joining forces".

p.s.: Please note that I am not arguing about whether this proposal is a good or pointless move or whether the trade deal is necessary now or not. I'm just critizising the claim of the far left and the far right actually working together.

We all know whose side the media is on, so your suspicion is more than warranted but about guarenteed. Their lack of examples and details says all you need to know about their insinuations.

Since when are the greens far-left?

[–] bossito@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

The far left did vote with them, some parties on the far left also do present themselves as greens, like the Portuguese green party (although they don't have MEPs anymore).

But when the supposed moderate Greens side with Russian puppets on the far-left and far-right to sabotage a deal with Global South countries, I guess we can't call them moderate any longer... Aggressively defending protectionism to European farmers and wasting an opportunity to improve the environmental standards in South American farming industry. This at a moment when Europe desperately needs to strengthen relations with middle powers like itself. This is extremist behavior.

The portuguese green party is a social democratic centrist party. Your overton window, much like the journalist's, is way to the right.Β

[–] bossito@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are you talking about the same green party? Because the only party green in its name is PEV "Os Verdes" the eternal coalition partner of PCP, the communist party.

[–] verdi@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How is that far left though? They don't defend leaving the EU, they abide by courts, they respect the constitution. That's not far left, that's just left wing.

The extreme right, by opposition, engages in anti-constitutional shenaningans, disobeys court orders, is sponsored by Interventionist foreign governments likeΒ Russia, has members committing theft in airports, just to name a couple of stuff that ended up in international press.Β

These are not even comparable, and the fact you think they are, tells me all I need to know about where your overton window lies. Either you're being disingenuous or are genuinely a victim of the fascist media indoctrination pipeline.Β

[–] bossito@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You think PCP/PEV is not sponsored by Russia?

[–] verdi@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No evidence of that happening, at least in the international press. Chega on the other hand, I linked already such evidence.Β

I also find it amusing that's the point you choose to pursue when questions are made about the accuracy of your arguments.Β

I see the question was answered organically, you're being disingenuous. One of the many fascist buddies frolicking on the socials.Β

Sorry for not wasting too much time answering someone with ready insults and the usual cassette, but I find it boring... I'm a lefty with an own mind, I'm not impressed by your microwaves notes, nor insults. And yes, PCP is the main Russian puppet in Portugal, CH is only in recruitment phase still.

[–] verdi@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Ok buddy.

Next time I'll avoid citing sources and rely on vibes like you did.

"I'm a lefty with an own mind" is such a meme.

"own mind using far right talking points"

Both supported by Chinese and russian and american money? More likely than you think.

Ffs...

And that β…“ of greens/EFA are also against it. SHAME ON YOU!

[–] bossito@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

What a beautiful site, greens and Nazis joining forces against a deal with the Global South /s.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

The right and left agree on a lot of things. Their agreement on an issue does not invalidate that opinion. Some of the far right now in the US realizes Israel ran epstein as a honeypot for blackmail in both the US and UK. Are you also going to listen to Israel when they discredit that because some of the right believe it?

Tis a good argument if one has shit for brains I will give it to you. But neverminding your definition of "far left," trade deals with countries without the same labor and environmental standards leads to a race to the bottom and selling out manufacturing to the low cost country to abuse their workers and pollute their lands so investors can make a killing.

Sounds like you are a neo liberal, playing us for fools.

I looked at the vote. β…” of greens/EFA votes against the examination of merconsur threw the EU court
