No, don’t you get it? The worms whisper to him. He knows the truth! You have to blend beef, fine Argentinian beef, in a blender then inject it into the top of your peen. If you don’t have a peen, take the cow peen and staple it to your face, then inject. Then you will be stronk like robber fucking lies kernedy junior! -a brainworm, probably

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

The worms are trying to spread themselves through undercooked meat! RFK is merely their mouthpiece to the world! They know bigger portions mean more chance of raw middle bits! Wake up sheeple!

It's literally a South Park joke from a couple years ago too...

Cartman flipped the pyramid, just like RFK Jr did in real life.

Focusing on protein and healthy fats over carbohydrates is not quackery.

An insistence on meat/dairy, that’s quackery, but Americans in general eat too many shit tier carbohydrates and fats and not enough protein.

Edit: this is Lemmy. Want fiber and protein? Eat some fuckin’ BEANS.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

We eat more than enough protein. What we lack is roughage. We're all in on that ultra processed white bread and corn chip stuff with lots of pasta. The main foods we need to eat more of remains as it always has: vegetables and to a lesser extent unprocessed fruits. We also should shift how we consume starches to healthier variants like baked potatoes. But seriously, it's fiber, we don't eat enough fiber

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t disagree with that at all. Fiber is massively important.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, given a constant calorie budget, people would be healthier if they shifted their proportions of calories towards protein and good fats and away from carbohydrates and bad fats. This does not seem like quackery to me, it seems like sound dietary advice.

[–] eupraxia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

This is broadly true, and the majority of the information in the new dietary guidelines is more or less in line with what we know already and what was recommended before. Protein is a great energy source that keeps you fuller longer, and is especially important if you're active. But the new recommended range of protein intake is ridiculous. 1.2-1.6 grams per lb of body weight is well above the range that is helpful for bodybuilders, much less average sedentary Americans. Many will meet this with red meat consumption, which has a number of negative health and climate effects that the new dietary guidelines have nothing to say about.

You also really do need fats and carbohydrates for a number of vital body processes, and I think unless they're active and being VERY careful, someone eating 1.6 g/lb of protein will struggle to get enough fat and carbs without introducing a caloric surplus.

That is true, the sugar (and corn,) industry at a minimum has run influence operations demonizing fat for the harms of sugar.

The body actually does not feel full until it gets enough fat, the stomach tastes the contents, if you have no fat you take in way more calories. Also, sugar is half fructose and half glucose. Glucose is good, used as is, that is what they put in hospital IV drips. Fructose gets metabolized in your liver into fat, then used, but the body does not recognize it as a food. It does not contribute to a full feeling.

Every time these dumb motherfuckers get thirsty they swill down pop, with the equivalent of 16 teaspoons of sugar in a 16 ounce. It is a major, if not the largest, factor in obesity.

Fructose could not even be utilized in human ancestors in the monkey days, it was not until a cold wind blew over africa for centuries that our monkey ancestors got the ability to turn that fructose into fat, to use for the periods when we did not have fresh fruit on hand every day all day. According to a national geographic article titled Sugar, now not findable on enshitified search engines because fuck you, (and me, the consumer not a personal dig.)

There are almost zero Americans that are protein deficient. Yet people here freak out about vegetarians and vegans like they're going to die of lack of protein while ignoring common vegan protein sources.

You could cut about half of the meat from old food group suggestions, including the Michele Obama one (which was more healthy and reasonable), and still be getting more than enough protein.

God these people are so anti-science and so fucking dumb. Men all desperately trying to look like roided out freaks.

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I'm no vegan or vegetarian, but I've been eating way less meat and more veggies lately since I found a really delicious veggie stew recipe. I've made it weekly for meal prep almost 4 weeks in a row now. There are many days recently where I go without eating meat at all. I just got some blood work back from my yearly physical and I had too much protein in my blood.

I actually get more protein from the veggie stew than I was getting with my old diet.

[–] 0k_@lemmy.world 33 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

You can't just say that and not share the veggie stew recipe.

For those that wanted the recipe:

  • 1 onion, chopped into half inch strips
  • 3 celery sticks, diced
  • one pack of baby bella mushrooms
  • one parsnip, finely diced
  • two zucchini, cut into small cubes
  • 4-5 large red potatoes, cubed with skin on
  • 1 pound of carrots, cut into chips, or one pound of baby carrots
  • 1 can of light red kidney beans, drained and washed
  • 1 can fire roasted tomatoes
  • 4 cups of veggie broth
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 can of tomato paste (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • 3/4 teaspoon of dried garlic
  1. In a large pot on medium high heat, add olive oil, onions, celery, mushrooms. Saute until softened.

  2. Pour in veggie broth, lemon juice, and spices. Mix well.

  3. Pour in the rest of the veggies and kidney beans. Mix well.

  4. Pour in fire roasted tomatoes on top. DO NOT MIX, and do not dispose of the can.

  5. Fill the can from the fire roasted tomatoes with water and pour into pot. Do not stir.

  6. Cover the pot with a lid, lower heat to medium, and simmer for between 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Optional - add in tomato paste and stir well.

  8. Add additional spices or salt to taste.

  9. Serve with noodles. I prefer those small middle rings.

Americans lack fiber, the protein bushit has gotten out of hand

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thanks for the link. I'm personally not even vegan and only what I call "half-vegetarian." I was pushing for full vegetarian until I was diagnosed with cancer which actually does require increased protein intake. I just think it's dumb to ignore reality that the majority of US citizens are far from hurting for protein and that there are plenty of healthy vegan protein options from nuts to tofu to seitan and more.

This guy would be our next president, taking the republican party in the succession, if not for his voice. Hard to give a good hitler speech with that impediment, probably a deal breaker with the base. Vance is not going to get it in whichever case. He was chosen because he's an unlikable cunt so the president wouldn't be shunted aside for him so quick.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If RFK Jr runs for president, I’d start to feel okay about history repeating itself.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago

Sadly he might be the "best" of the cabinet. Which is to say he is less of a piece of shit than the rest, despite being a massive cynical piece of shit. All the real stuff he talks about, he's just playing people. Toxic dyes and additives, pesticides, etc. He doesn't care about any of it, he is just furthering his own interests. The thought that anyone would care about the greater good fills these types of people with scorn, and disbelief. They think everyone else is a selfish piece of shit too, working for selfish goals.

This type of stuff is unironically going to shorten the lifespan of millions of people. The keto diet is so absurd. If I wanted to invent something that technically followed the rules but was wildly unhealthy, I doubt I could come up with something as absurd as the chaffle (a waffle made of cheese), but I know people who've actually eaten them. Once I was visiting my family and started snacking on some chips, but something felt off, so I checked. It was literally just melted crispy cheese. We're going to be the first generation to have a lower lifespan than our parents.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

that all sounds so disgusting

i’m really glad i get nauseous from too much fat and sugar… makes it really easy to avoid stuff like that

it does make it kinda difficult to visit the US and see friends though: anywhere we eat is a minefield of fat, sugar, and salt that leaves me just wanting a damn salad to cleanse my palette but even then it probably has fricken ranch on it or a weirdly salty vinaigrette

My dad almost died from polio. Vaccines are a major part of my existing (my mother got vaccinated against it). Fuck this guy.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Yes but only the rich countries are supposed to eat like this. The rest can eat rice or whatever.

Did this article falsely assume that all people on earth are equal and should eat like this?

Tss tsss...
