He's enabled by some very wealthy people. And in the US wealth is more than just money, it's often the most important factor in status, popularity, and social and political power.

Even some the people screaming for empathy, understanding, and improved social programs often look down upon the poor and homeless, they just hide it behind a veneer of doing good. They want to rid the nation of poverty not because it's the right thing to do, but so that they aren't confronted with the reality of what causes poverty and the guilt they feel when they pass by someone who's panhandling.

Our nation's version of original sin is productivity. If you're alive, you must feed into the economic system, you must support yourself and not be a burden to others. If you're successful and wealthy enough, it means all lesser sins (getting bailed out with tax money, wage theft and fraud, destroying the environment, prejudice, sexual predation, etc.) will be forgiven by at least half the nation. This effect is more profound for celebrity performers.

So, if you're stable financially and not under a direct threat from the administration, you're probably upset, but your focus is going to be on finding a way to get rid of Trump and get out of this mess without winding up POOR.

You want to know why so many federal workers are still doing their jobs despite being complicit in many of the awful things that are happening? Because they don't have a way to pay the rent if they walk off the job. The job market is awful. The economy is in the shitter. Everything is super expensive, and they don't want to let their families down. Want the military and federal agents to quit? Give them a guaranteed way to pay their mortgages. Find them another job.

It's not just about luxuries and standards of living. It's about social acceptance and beloning. People will go to insane lengths to feel like an accepted member of a group. So these workers may be unhappy, even deeply upset about the direction the country is headed in, but it'll have to get worse before the sacrifice is worth it, because being in jail or being dead is only a little bit worse than being a poor person.

Same holds true for much of the rest of the nation. It's hard to risk belonging, to risk being part of our society, when there's no guarantee you won't wind up homeless and a pariah because of it.

Plenty of people are telling him to piss off, it doesn't matter anymore, he has the keys to the castle.

He's also surrounded by a cabal of the worst people humanity has to offer, who are taking this opportunity to get as much abhorrent shit done as they can before he kicks the bucket and this weird cult of personality they have dies with him.

None of them are interested in stopping this train, they're getting everything they dreamed of and more.

Half of the US agrees with him. The other half thinks AOC's snappy comebacks being shared on Reddit are more than enough to stop him. The US is a shithole with only two viable parties, so the end result is what you see.

Because enough of the people who would be responsible for stopping this senile psychopath see him as THEIR senile psychopath and they're more interested in seeing the people they don't like get hurt than they are in preserving the rule of law or the constitution. The rest could try to send a message by pushing for articles of impeachment, but the message it sends is entirely wrong if and when he's just fully acquitted by his ruling party.

This incidentally is a big part of why the mid-term election is going to be so important. If his shitstick cronies get thrown the fuck out then maybe something useful will actually get done about him.

[–] fyrilsol@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Because the people who didn't want him, have things to lose and are reluctant to upset their way of life in doing so. That's the American Way, is to chain and distract the populace just enough where they're interlocked in indecisiveness as to do or don't. Please do not shit on these people, I'm absolutely sure if it was entirely worth it, we would've started the 2nd Revolution by now from this tyranny that has taken hold on us.

The people who did vote for him - have nothing to lose, which is why they don't care, which is why they support everything he does.

I would have written something that would have 100% gotten me banned, if I didn't have a community to build. And I would have been 100% right about it, and anyone who would say otherwise, could straight up fuck themselves.

If I had written it.

But long-term goals, and people come first.

I was talking to a dev who worked at Facebook  He told me the information on internet is not public. Its curated by google and Facebook, sure the information is there but they ensure what people see.

He gave an example of how people have accepted the premise of cloud storage and apple and google removed SD card slots from phones and there was no backlash. Its because they shadownban the users who protest and put post and comments which are neutral or supportive in front of masses.  He gave another example which I forgot.

People have stopped using common sense and are heaving addicted to screens and big tech and politicians know it hence at President Trumps inauguration he has all big tech leaders right in front as he know the public is addicted to screen which can be used to exploit and extract.

So to answer your question, there is backlash but its all online and those users are being profiled and there post don't get much visibility hence we see no protest coz others think there no backlash, nobody cares so why should I.

That’s how democracy works

The will of the people is greater than the laws as written

The people voted for Trump, a Republican congress, and by extension a Republican Supreme Court

It’s working as intended

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago

30% of US adults voted for trump.

Decades of gerrymandering, voter suppression, disinfo campaigns and no small amount of outright fraud brought the current regime to power, not the will of american people.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A disgustingly low percentage of the US population votes in non-presidential elections. The right-wing has spent the better part of the last century stacking the deck at every level of government. The invention of the internet makes it harder for them to maintain this though (much easier to find out who/what you're voting for) but that's going to take a while for a long-term impact to be noticeable

Nazis. And the pedophiles that run the US will protect the pedophile in the White House.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 1 week ago

Because wherever there are people with power, there are those who will do ANYTHING to gain access to that power. When there's no mechanism to FORCE those with power to over the law, then they won't, and their cronies will be insulated to some degree from consequences. Enough people (Congress) who could force consequences are the ones benefiting from Trump's corruption and could suffer negative consequences for turning against Trump. A lot of those guys are very old and extremely unlikely to suffer consequences if the following administration is also Republican. It's a big ugly tangle and unless somebody is willing to just arrest the Orange Jackass and all his ghouls, nothing will change.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Because he’s a useful tool of God!!!

I wish we could keep Trump out of every single community.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

"If you don't, someone else will." But that only works when the population is so divided that they don't trust the average replacement to hold your standards. And then of course be proven that the next person actually doesn't hold the same standards.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 0 points 1 week ago

Because America is a democracy and enough of the voters wanted this.

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Pride. Simple answer. Public image, foot hold, etc... ass holes trying to hold onto wealth they don't deserve. Public kindness is protecting them. If they admit he's wrong, they're wrong, and that's an admission of guilt. They'll die before we experience them changing. All we can do is fight back loudly and quietly.

Edit: I was drunk when I said this I and don't know what I was saying.

[–] Anon518@sh.itjust.works -4 points 1 week ago

It sounds like you're getting your information from purely 1-sided sources. Look for news sources that cover the perspective of both sides. I'm not saying this as a Trump supporter.
