Ah! Can you take the politics out of Discworld? I don't think you can. Even this comic is making a subtle argument about what is and isn't deemed appropriate for children - that you can deny the existence of "things not meant to be safe", but you are also denying them the important lesson that there are unsafe things in the world.

But I'm also being pedantic. The intent of this space would be better described as Comics Outside (K)urrent Events. We're here for bumps of COKE

Reminder that Death may not be the best judge of what constitutes a suitable educational toy for children.

No wonder Terry Pratchett shared this himself. It's very Discworld-y. I can imagine this scene happening at Ankh-Morpork.

I think it’s a scene from Hogfather

Well it is a illustration of a scene direct from the novel, with the exact dialogue. But yeah, the art really nails it

Also directly included in the made for TV movie adaptation.

Boy scouts which is often kids under 15, have knives

At least where i live.

Theyre even allowed to carry them in public, if they are in their uniform. Unlike “regular citizens”

A kid getting hurt is fine. Life lessons are important

A knife sure, but what about a sword?

I would have gone to scouts if everyone was carrying a zweihander.

[–] Ageroth@reddthat.com 2 points 5 hours ago

Sorry, all out of zweihander, all I can offer is a saber

Where do you live that its illegal to have a knife??

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 6 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

It's not illegal to have a knife but, in many places, carrying a knife in public is, unless there is a good reason for it; e.g. going on a camping trip, hunting...

If police stops you and find you a knife, they will ask questions. It's ok if you have camping gear and are going to camp so you need it. It's not ok if you are going to a club at night.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 2 points 7 hours ago

But what if it's knife night at the club!?
