Yes, they plan to kill people.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Yes, they ~~plan to~~ kill people.

[–] normalentrance@lemmy.zip 56 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I've always wondered in those gray, dystopian movies with smog filled skies, smoke stacks, military forces, and people behind fences: how could they let it get that far?

I never even considered how quickly it could happen.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Same here. In just 10 years the world went to hell in ways I could not see possible.

The rest of the world has been watching you walk blindly down this path for three or four decades. We warned you, repeatedly, and received shitty, belligerent flag-waving in response.

Nobody literate outside the US is at all surprised by where you have found yourself (though we are a little shocked by how easily the decent people among you are rolling over and taking it). Trump is perhaps not the LEAST of your problems, but he’s not the cause, either.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Anyone paying attention since at least the Bush-Gore election would know we were fucked.

[–] jumjummy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Chances are that whatever country you are from also has an alt-right problem. Seeing the .ca instance, if you are from Canada, you weren’t far from electing your own lite version of Trump. Thankfully our mistake amplified so much bullshit that the Canadian’s didn’t repeat what we did.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yes, we have an alt-right problem thanks to you allowing a house fire to start on our street after three decades of responding like assholes when we told you not to let your kids play with matches.

“Your child’s going to start a fire and it’s going to spread.”

“Shut up, you’re America’s hat.”

I grew up in the Middle East and immigrated to Canada. The problems of the US were not 100% obvious to me from there.

The purpose of a bill is what it does. This weakens environmental regulations and protections for humans. Allowing companies to pollute and pay their executives more. It was always the goal.

At what point do we start considering that Yellowstone exploding and erasing North America might not be as bad as we initially thought?

[–] NaibofTabr 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Er, wouldn't that also set the value of human life to $0?

[–] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Actually it’s currently at negative if he’s killing people so Yellowstone would at least bring it back up to 0

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Start? Shit I’m praying for that or Apophis in 2030

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There is probably gonna be a lot of greenhouse gases and other shit coming out of a yellowstone eruption. Might just affect more than americans.

The question is: more or less than if we let them go ahead with their plans?

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 36 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I just moved to New Zealand at the beginning of the year. The thing I was most struck by immediately after landing was how good the air smells outside. And I was at the Auckland Airport!

That and the quality of the eggs immediately radicalized me. They've taken so much from us.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I hate you with every ounce of my being for not taking me with you. Good move and good luck.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I hate myself for not doing this a decade ago.

[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I’m 39 bro let’s get a plan together and let’s be roommates for at least the first year and let’s get it done dude, plus I’m single so we can just have good times and good vibes and see how it goes. Unless you got a lot of baggage in that case, we’ll have to talk about that.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

For me its how large and healthy random animals look in other countries outside America. Like even the squirrels and birds in America look like they are struggling in comparison.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Wow, that's something I haven't thought to look at. I did notice that I haven't seen an unhappy dog in the couple of weeks I've been here. I've seen a lot of dogs, and some shy ones, but not really any anxious or angry dogs. That hit me out of the blue a couple days ago.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

you should see the size of the rabbits in my backyard here in suburban Ottawa

the foxes, however, are cute and small as always

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

tell me more about these eggs

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Now, before I tell you this, you should know that this was a carton of the cheapest eggs I could find at a random Pak 'n' Save in Auckland. So this isn't some boutique farmers market thing. And it's happened twice, with two different brands, so it wasn't a fluke.

So the first thing I noticed was the color of the yolk. In the US, I'm used to a sort of medium canary yellow color; but when I cracked the first one into a bowl, I audibly said "oh!" because that yolk was practically orange. It was such a rich yellow texture. I've seen something close to that in a hen-fresh egg in the States, but even that was a little duller in color than this.

I only scrambled them that first time. And I didn't even do a particularly good job; didn't use a whisk, probably didn't use the right ratio of milk to egg, I got distracted so I wasn't paying attention to how long they cooked, and I didn't have the right seasonings. But with just salt and pepper, those were the best scrambled eggs I've ever eaten in my life. On a random Saturday, and by my own hand! They had this creamy texture, it was nowhere near rubbery, and it had this flavor to it that I can't describe really. I have come to discover that that's the true flavor of a fresh egg. I had never really tasted the flavor of egg before.

The second time, I made sunny side up eggs for my father in law. I've never gotten sunny side up to even kind of work, but this time...well, I kind of broke the yolk a little bit, but...anyway, I'm not a great cook. But he agreed that they were really good.

Then I had them boiled. They were slightly overdone, but I barely needed salt or pepper.

I'm looking forward to eating eggs now. We've even gotten some of our kids to eat them. They're just so much better than the stuff I picked up at home.

Honestly, Trump is either incredibly stupid or destroying everything is his goal.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

His ego and his pocketbook are all that matters. Arguably all that ever has. Any time you think "he did what?" consider who is paying him or stroking his ego. That's all it is.

New ballroom? Ego. Stripping environmental protection? Pocketbook. Invade Venezuela? Pocketbook. Ice Gestapo? Ego. He doesn't care anything for America. He cares for the slice that lets him line his pockets and feel like a big strong boy. There is no heart, there is no morals, it's him, his ego, and the wallet he sits on.

[–] sbbq@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think you forgot triggering the libs.

[–] rosefiend@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago
[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Theee things: He’s absolutely stupid. He’s a self-centered narcissist. He’s immune to consequences.

The confluence of the two and the power he has lets him do a lot of self-serving…well, everything. From money to bullying to whatever.

And his position protects him from any consequences. Which lets him keep doing everything he’s been doing.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What is incredible is that he has been doing and saying heinous shit his whole life and his history of business failure was always still cast as success for some reason.

Like he has been raping people his whole life, and he probably personally threw that baby in lake Michigan, things that are punishable by life in prison or the death penalty in some places. Yet he evaded everything.

Even in the era he was doing this, the coked up 80s, lots of people went to jail for fraud and crap and the shit he was doing. The fact that such a high profile person like him evaded it still is just incredible.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The only answer is that the people that like him figure his shitty behavior supports their shitty behavior. And they’re not wrong.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And that is. How he got on the apprentice is because when they were looking for successful CEOs to star in the show they couldn't find them. Because CEOs that are good at their jobs are generally too busy running their companies to be on some dumb reality show. Trump? He basically had an open schedule. All his time was devoted to the show. He didn't have much else going on at the time.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And the producer now is publicly apologizing for this.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

I read the article. He not only singlehandedly rehabilitated his ailing image (he was seen as a washed up relic by that point) but the writing and the entire crew did their best to make him look like a competent leader and manager and 'America's boss'.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 9 points 2 months ago

Fanta! Now in chromate yellow flavor!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago

Well it's equivalent to the value I place on Trump's health.

[–] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In case others are also bad at remembering every acronym concerning the US and its politics:

EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 months ago

Exxon Protection Agency

[–] deadymouse@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Only a miracle can save us. And I hope you have already understood this, but someone has long understood it.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

How long until RFK Jr. recommends detox therapies for health issues caused by all the dereguation?
