Original title: No, Seriously. Youtube’s New Algorithm Just Changed Everything

Just FYI not sure about the creator but other creators are saying some similar things across the board.

For a while I stayed watching a lot of shorts even though I don't like them much. It's just so easy to get sucked in... But some weeks ago I found NouTube which is basically a Web version that blocks ads and sorts. It's like the good old days. YouTube suddenly feels so interesting again. Shorts have cannibalized long format videos.

Give FreeTube a try.

I am the kind of person who wants the content of channels I subscribed to 95% of the time.

I was annoyed with bs all the time. Self hosting Invidious solved it for me.

No shorts, no ads, no home area deaigned by Google, no cookie banner, no forcing to log in, just a clean UI...

Just not the content

I don't go to YouTube for its shitty UI or algorithm,or ads... I go there for the content that I want to wath

Yeah, things have been in steady decline for the past few months 😞

Oh, now combine the learnings from that video, with this video;

On how short form content aparrently rots your brain more than long form. Fun new direction we're heading.

And the increasing ads. They’re almost unbearable. Anyone know how to block them on mobile?

Instal the FDroid software shop.

Search "Newpipe" or "Tubular".

Install one of the above.

Remove the regular YT client from your phone.

Done.

I should have specified iPhone sorry

Edit: Tube PIP seems to work fine on iPhone

Share that newly gained knowledge and enjoy your ad free experience.

I use AdGuard on iOS, but I expect uBlock to also work (for the web version of yt).

[–] Yossarian@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

I use revanced

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

I use Grayjay, it works pretty well and has a clean UI.

[–] Baizey@feddit.dk 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Disable YouTube app (to stop all YouTube links to open the app) + Firefox with ublock origin works pretty well

[–] nocteb@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

Anoying people with Adblockers and fucking up the experience in Firefox does not help either.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

This is so ripe fordisruption by an alternative

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

YouTube changes their algorithm every few weeks and some subset of creators freak out about it. This has literally been going on since monetization began.

What I HATE is when I type a simple question in Google and the return is 15-30 minute videos of some guy mumbling and doing it wrong.
