A bombshell new report from CBS News suggests that the Iranian Government has murdered between 12,000 and 20,000 protesters since the ongoing, national revolt against it began.

“Information trickling out of Iran on Tuesday suggests that a crackdown by authorities to end more than two weeks of widespread anti-government protests has likely been far more deadly than activists outside the country have reported,”

I'm seeing this wave of revolts and I'm still wondering when my compatriots back home in China will finally rise up against the government... 👀

With the Trump admin looking who to attack next around the world I don't trust any of these numbers.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 26 minutes ago (1 children)

The regime admitted to 2,000.

And while 12,000 is the highest number I've seen so far, it's got to be somewhere between those figures.

Us media is not credible here either. They are being tooled for iran war 2.

CBS is currently beholden to the Nazi's and I don't know if I trust their reporting. It would be in the US' best interest to show Iranian instability as well as how violent "real" protesting is to try and dissuade domestic ideas.

That said. If Iran is murdering 10k citizens a week, their government won't last through the end of the month. One can only hope.

Any unrest in iran right now will be associated with the us and israel, and be ruthlessly crushed for that reason, coming on the heels of israel's bullshit.

Agreed.
Need an aljazeera link.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Al jazeera is literally the Qatari state media.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

So? Is iran controlling Qatar?

[–] hypna@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Qatar has much better relations with Iran than most Arab states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Qatar_relations

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

Qatar is a country that try to keep an image of the country who get along with everybody that's why it has good relation with the two enemies the usa and iran.

Just weird to say "I don't trust reporting from a state-influenced source. I'll wait until I hear reporting from media owned by a different state with an even more vested interest."

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 31 minutes ago* (last edited 29 minutes ago)

Exposing yourself to propaganda, if you understand it's propaganda, is just another piece of data to anyone seriously trying to understand the situation. Propaganda exposes desire. Knowing that Al Jazeera is Qatari state media, one could want to hear what Qatar wants people to think is happening, and compare that to what western media wants you to think is happening, and compare that to other sources etc etc. Comparing propaganda against trusted and vetted sources exposes lies.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 hours ago

Qatar will be 'based' in USA!

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 7 hours ago

to try and dissuade domestic ideas.

Happening in this very thread 🙄 https://lemmy.zip/comment/23951989

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 25 points 10 hours ago

Yup. Whatever's coming out of CBS on topics where Israel has vested interest, there's a good chance of hasbara. Could still be true but a bucket of salt is recommended.

I really, really hope the protesters succeed. Iran has such a glorious history and wonderful people - they deserve so much more. It could retake its place as the shining example of countries in the region, as it was for most of the last 5000 years.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 16 minutes ago

Not in the cards now I am afraid, only iran war 2 is in this hand.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

As long as the US doesn't march in and say "We'll help you with your oil and write your laws for you."

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 0 points 24 minutes ago

At this point I suspect it's less about wanting the oil under Iran and more about not wanting China to have it.

[–] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 16 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

It doesn't happen to have anything to do with America overthrowing their government and the creation of Israel, does it?

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 23 points 11 hours ago

Hey now, don't leave out the UK. (And the real power, oil money)

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

We're we also destabilizing the region to harm Russia during the cold war? I forget.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 24 points 11 hours ago

holy shit, that’s awful.

[–] Chee_Koala@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago

Oi, that's more then most tiananmen square massacre estimates. Must be crazy to be there right now.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

Fucking monsters, I hope the Iranian people string up their opressors.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

To all those who keep calling for acts of violence in the US I ask: how many will Dementia Donny kill in response?

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 28 points 11 hours ago

Look man. Some people are very willing to do everything they can with their life on the line. At some point an end to your life is preferable to the state of oppression.
