Years ago I became a customer for MAIL. ** JUST. MAIL.**

I now have access to
VPN
-Don't care, don't want. I use a different service.
Drive
-I'd rather eat my own head than trust someone else's computer with my files. I self host.
Docs+Sheets, storing the documents in the abovementioned "Drive"
Are you joking?
ProtonPass
-Use a different self hosted solution
Wallet
-Not on your @#^ing life
Lumo AI
GFYS

Every single time I find out more trash got glued to my account I get angrier.

Either provide a "Mail+Calendar ONLY" package for a discount or prepare to lose a customer.

You're paying the same price that you started paying years ago, which you must believe is worthwhile because you've been paying it foe this long, and you have more features available to use, which you can choose not to use. This is a ridiculous complaint.

[–] Steve@communick.news 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You are the crazy one.
You're literally complaining about getting more products and services for the same price.
Do you have any evidence that your imagined Mail+Calendar service would be cheaper or better, if not for all these other things? Or is it all just assumptions on your part?

I genuinely don't understand why you and so many others apparently Want to dislike Proton. Want to dislike it so much, you make up these silly nonsensical excuses.

[–] idealism_nearby@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did the price go up? Or did you just get more features that you don't need to use?

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're not the only one to say so

That said, you don't have to use what you don't want and the lower price tiers only have the mail.

I like that youtuber. I'll be sure to watch that vid when I get home later. At this point if they won't give us a "no bloat" package I'm likely to go to Tuta this year. Already using my own domain so it's hardly going to be difficult.

[–] Yesbutnotreally@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can warn you that Tuta seems to be getting bloated with useless features and completely neglecting their mail and calendar this year too as they’re gonna release their drive.

Oh jeez. Thanks for the heads up. That's it, if I'm going anywhere I'm taking the leap and self hosting email now too.

It definitely gives me a weird feeling to see them becoming bigger and more all-encompassing. And the way they bought SimpleLogin and did nothing with it but keep the dev too busy solving problems to implement any of the features that were planned up until that point didn't really give me a great impression of them as a business, either. I stopped using them a long time ago.

I do worry that that their service sprawl is going to detract from overall quality of said services. Email, Calendar, Drive, and VPN would have been a perfectly fine ecosystem. Now they're doing AI shit too, I guess?

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The default in Proton's webmail is for their AI to be ON. "Writing assistant".

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 days ago

Well that's unfortunate.

[–] Yesbutnotreally@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes. You’re the crazy one.

Either provide a "Mail+Calendar ONLY" package for a discount or prepare to lose a customer.

...they already offer exactly that.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Please link? I don't see sh*t in my account to "downgrade" my package beyond what it currently is- "Mail plus", which has access to everything I listed, including Lumo AI slop.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mail Plus, as the name suggests, is Mail+calendar.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

My Mail plus has all of the pictured, with no "restricted, upgrade your plan" messages for any of them.

[–] autr@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago

Did you actually check the feature list? The Mail Plus has very limited access for the other apps.

There's the free account, has mail and calendar, plus other stuff, but at least you aren't paying for it
