Meshtastic ain't replacing the internet if it goes down but it's fun and it gets more useful with the number of people showing up. If we could use wider channels at lower frequency with higher power, in order to get the average bandwidth to 56K modem, we could really do some internet-like replacement.

We don't need meshtastic to replace the internet. We need it to coordinate with our neighbors and allies.

Fact. I was using the flyer's framing. Still, a bit more bandwidth and range could make this system a lot more useful. Speaking of range, I ordered some 1W nodes from RAK that should be here in a couple of days. They won't be as useful as they can be for 2-way comm without the counterparts also being 1W but I'm curious to see how much further I can tx from my balcony. :D

I'm just waiting for BBS^2^ to get going on it, I sadly was a tad too young to get in on its prime, but maybe I can catch the train this time lmao

Meshcore has something like chat rooms that I would love if it got ported over to meshtastic. Its very close. My family and I were able to make it work with little fuss. It was better at telling you if the message got received than meshtastic.

Theres also some bridge projects that I haven't tested that possibly work with meshtastic on irc/discord/etc..etc... and a whole BBS project someone built out a while back.

Its a beta project that is doing fantastic bringing people over to the ham side.

CB radios will work just fine.

4W at 27MHz should go significantly further than LoRa but no mesh. Do you have any idea on the legality of transmitting digital signal over this channel? Obviously people listening to modem noises would hate it. 😄

It's what it says CB radio can transmit at in Wiki. 💥

There are plenty of digital modes over ham bands honestly. In theory up to 1kW or more (country/license specific) !

Just fyi this has been posted earlier if anyone needs the url and direct link. As others had said mesh is a great start into ham and other ways of communication.

Anyone get a recording by chance?

Surely it's easy to jam tho?
