OHHH this all makes sense suddenly. Curtis fucking Yarvin the dweeb-villain himself is behind this. Everyone should be aware of the technofeudalist plan to destroy America as we know it and turn it into a network state with monarch-like ultra-authoritarian "CEOs" of each country. Oh and btw Peter Thiel is fully bought into this (there are dozens of verified comms between them), and Thiel owns Vance. So when Trump dies, this is their ultimate plan.

Check out Prospera in Honduras, one early example of these states.

Sounds about right. They know climate change is coming and Greenland will be prime real estate in a few decades.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't think climate change is the primary driver, since they won't even be alive to see the worst affects of it. Don't get me wrong it's going to make everything worse even within 10 years, but it's not turning Greenland into some habitable, farmable landmass in the span of these technofascists' lifetimes. God I hate this.

People should read The Ministry for the Future to learn how they dealt with climate criminals as more and more people suffered and died due to climate change in the mid-future.

[–] Ach@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I genuinely believe you're underestimating how important legacy is to these people. These rich fucks donating to have anything built is to see their name in stone on the building facade. I think you're dead wrong that they'd approach this any differently knowing they won't live to reap their investment, they'll do exactly that to immortalize their families.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Interesting point. I can see it going both ways. They are fundamentally broken inside with greed and selfishness, but also obsessed with immortality and legacy like you said, so maybe a little of both?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

Time to set up the ignobel price 2 for those fuckers

[–] Witziger_Waschbaer@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

These people believe that they will actually defeat death itself with technology. It is part of their ideology. Look into transhumanism and how the tech bros heavily buy into the idea that they will outlive us all because they assume themselves to be superior. Thiel openly says so in that Antichrist NYT interview.

Survival of the richest by Douglas Rushkoff (professor of media theory and the guy who coined terms like 'viral media' and 'digital native') is a very interesting read on that.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's not bad though (having a go at death itself, we're mere machines so why not), we have alleviated suffering and early death with medicine for centuries. They? They are illiterate morons when it comes to biology and will believe anything grifters will sell them, like cold treatments, injecting stem cells and whatever other "silver bullet" treatment. Almost funny how they are getting fooled if it wasn't diverting so much effort away from real progress.

[–] Witziger_Waschbaer@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, can't go with you on that first part. A believe I hold is that in free will and chance/randomness. As a deterministic approach would be a prerequisite for humans to be transfered into states of ones and zeros, it would mean, that everything about us is predetermined and I simply refuse to subscribe to that idea.

But the second part, spot on.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago

Makes me remember that old "chose your adventure" book comic:

The old man asks you "do you believe everything is deterministic?"

For "yes" go to page 72. For"no" go to page 72

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I see it as making Greenland into prime real estate by causing climate change. /s

[–] EightLeggedFreak@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You jest, but these are egomaniacs that believe they are the harbingers and rulers of a new world. I'm not saying it's true, however it is totally within the realm of possibility that, at this point, they view their actions as terraforming.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Why can't we just... like... terraform our current environment? Y'know, like, cleaning the air, soil, and water...? Right...?

I know the answer is because it's not profitable.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 73 points 1 month ago (3 children)

This is why being a philanthropist doesn't reform a billionaire. They're making decisions for the rest of us using our money.

"Finally free from the evils of democracy and rule of law!"

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Free to build the data centers necessary to control an army of terminators; to genocide the proles once capitalism no longer requires their labour.

Like, I'm not even joking. I have zero doubt whatsoever that is the final solution in the minds of psychopaths like Thiel or Altman. Humanity is currently a parasite and our civilisation can not continue at the current rate of consumption for more than a couple of centuries without monumental leaps in technology.

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

New data centers should not exist, but alaska would be a lot easier/less stupid.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

Sounds like Elon rhetoric to me

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

These assholes have worse writing than an uninspired comic.

[–] Retro_unlimited@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Company town.

You get housing and food, but your a SLAVE forever!

What a bunch of lunatics

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So a fascist wants to invade Greenland. These ghouls want to capitalize on that to build some tech bro dystopia shit. I think we know what we need to call these ghouls. Fascist ghouls.

[–] OshagHennessey@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

This is no coincidence. The fascist is a puppet for the ghouls.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 22 points 1 month ago

I just need these guys to lose. To lose as hard as they have ensured everyone else does.

[–] OshagHennessey@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Anyone still supporting US corporations is supporting the machine bringing fascism to the world.

[–] Jimbel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

True! Unfortunately amazon, microsoft windows, google are so deeply integrated in the whole society of a lot of countries sobthat a lot of people contribute to fascist powers.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Maybe all the shitheads will move over there and the rest of us can get to work on clean night up the country. Although that would mean the poor Greenlanders being drowned out with shithead invaders, which is extremely unfair on them.

[–] jonne 39 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just shows that the idea that Bill Gates was one of the good ones was just PR. There are no good billionaires.

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Somebody said that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a way for him to funnel money to his children without paying taxes, and that the disease fighting stuff is just a side benefit.

[–] jonne 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean, the thing is that a donation to philanthropy is tax deductible, so even if you control the charity 100%, it counts. Instead of paying taxes, you're just paying yourself. And once it's in that charity, you can use that money for any charitable cause, even if that cause benefits the non-charitable side of your portfolio. This means that you can

  • pay for your own PR
  • use the charity money to buy a bunch of medicine to eradicate some disease, while you have investments in the pharma company that will provide said medicine
  • donate to academia to steer research goals and then become a early investor in any spinoff companies that result from that
  • donate to a charity run by a politician/other rich person to curry favour

It's not a coincidence he's become richer despite 'donating his wealth'.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

it is 100% a tax-avoidance scheme, they occasionally spend that $ wisely...that $ would 100% be more effeciently spent if done via a properly coordinated/supported government effort.

that being said...in the Land of the Free...considering how shit is run I 100% understand why so many of these people keep as much of their $ as possible out of the feds hands. the ratfucking doesn't stop when Dem's are running things, it's just slightly better hidden.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They have no interest in living a good life for themselves, the main purpose is always to lord over others and stomp on their faces to satisfy sexually sadistic urges.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 16 points 1 month ago

All previous nvestigations and attempts at building of infrastructure on Greenland has given the same results: It is not feasible.

This idea of building a biodome city is like people in the 1800s dreaming of flying to the moon using steam engines and gas blimps.

There's good reason why Greenland/Denmark/China has already given up for now on building the much wanted airport hub and mineral extraction etc. There's good reasons why USA abandoned their nuclear silos there. At the moment it will cost insane amounts of money if it's even possible.

Maybe in 50-100 years when the ice has melted, then we can investigate once again to find out if it's even possible then or if the assumed bedrock under the ice is actually just a pile of mud.

The current knowledge and technology can't do this in any way that will make any economical sense in comparison to what that amount of money can actually create elsewhere right now.

If the billionaires want to throw all their money at it, sure, go ahead. It's not going to work, but at least their money will change hands in the process.

wait wait wait…

is THIS the real reason Trump wants to take over Greenland? because the cool kids are all going there, and they didn’t invite him?

hahaha! what a turd. old Donny Nofriends. so pathetic.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Probably less that and more that he was asked to/promised something if he did.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Sounds like they are all so dumb they think that Greenland movie is a documentary they want to make come true.

[–] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Here's my tinfoil hat hot take:

Considering the development of hypersonic missiles, Greenland would do little to defend/protect during modern warfare.

But the location combined with low population, thermal power sources, would be ideal for development for an attempt to create a future climate change shelter. If a select group wanted to keep cool on their own big island as the rest of the world burned, this is how I would expect them to plan it out.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sure, but go from that thought…

To trump.

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

He's a means to an end for those that want to do whatever the fuck they like. Can him the smartest man you've ever met, throw him some pocket change and give him a fake trophy, he'll do whatever you tell him.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Because they need a place to rape children while stripping American’s of their freedom

[–] boolean_sledgehammer@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm all for this. It will fail spectacularly, and hopefully it will do so with all of them in it.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

As a US citizen who will suffer under the embargo the rest of the world will set up around US trade, I will kind of miss things like toothpaste and medicine and food.

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Bill's wife left him because of hos trips on the lolita express so he is full mask off now. Cunt

What is this, the prequel to Chrysalids?

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 month ago
