What's the texture situations on these?

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 40 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I imagined one is like a potato and the other a tomato, just with the flavours swapped.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ok then I'm definitely going for the pomato. That's basically like a mashed potato in a nice skin to help keep it's shape.

[–] neo2478@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Nah, that would be like watery soupy mashed potato. Plus I guess it would taste like raw potato

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Neo, why can't you let me have my to-go mashed potatoes head cannon?! What did I ever do to you?!?!

Can I make pomato fries? Do they need ketchup?

[–] tal@lemmy.today 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"What this tomato needs is some tomato sauce."

[–] Klear@quokk.au 7 points 2 weeks ago

Pomato sauce

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

"Eureka! I have invented the self-ketchuping french fry!"

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 38 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Totato. I like the flavor, but not the texture, of tomatoes.

[–] Nuerion@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

i was gonna comment the same exact thing lol

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Could you imagine if this was a thing? Foods with flavor profiles switched with texture profiles of other foods?

Think about it:

We could actually achieve…. STEAK fries.

[–] AstroLightz@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

This is/was a thing with the Grapple. NileRed made a video on it on their NileBlue channel.

[–] HurricaneLiz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This would be amazing.

Ok so stay with me, when I was sick and couldn't eat solid food for two weeks my friend put a double bacon cheeseburger in her blender with milk then microwaved it for me. Once I got used to the flavor and temperature of a burger coming from a milkshake texture it was like one of the best meals I've ever had.

Any kind of mindfuckery with food should be tried bc why the hell not? 😂💜🍻

totato fries with pomato ketchup sounds like a great way to convince someone their having a stroke

[–] callyral@pawb.social 12 points 2 weeks ago

Totato, tomato taste without the weird gross tomato texture.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago

What a wonderful phrase!

[–] tal@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Dice 'em both, cook 'em together and eat them both.

Tomato and potato work together, so I figure that totato and pomato should too.

[–] Sumocat@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Totato. I add tomato flavoring to potato a lot, but never the other way around.

[–] percent 6 points 2 weeks ago
[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Totato because I don't like the texture of tomatoes.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 5 points 2 weeks ago

Fried green pomato.

Also like ever bite into a raw potato? Even if it tasted like tomato that is a hard no.

[–] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 weeks ago

Is the pomato cooked first? If not, then I'd rather have the totato.

[–] HurricaneLiz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Totato for sure, potatoes taste gross 😂

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

This triggered me. Please don't speak ill of potatoes. Are you even okay!?

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 3 points 2 weeks ago

It depends on raw or cooked.

If both options are cooked and line up so

A Totato has the texture of a coooked potato with the flavor of a cooked tomato, I'm 100% down

Pomato though... Idk. I'm imaging a pomato sauce and I think it would just be mixed mashed potatoes and spaghetti ya know? Not repulsive, but not desirable.

And if we're talking eating it raw? Totato without question. Rough texture sure, but I'd get through it .

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

look, if you need to deep fry or smother something in butter for it too taste good...it doesn't taste good

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Then literally nothing tastes good.

[–] gerryflap@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Come back to be me when you've experienced the fine Dutch Cuisine of boiled potatoes, plain vegetables, and watery meat as the primary dish of your childhood. Occasionally the boiled potatoes are mixed with slightly undercooked potato slices, and potentially the spices kerrie or nutmeg may be added when the culinary level is exceptionally high that day.

I know potatoes can be better, but unless they're fried I honestly don't want them in my house anymore

[–] orenj@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

Gimme a knife and a crockpot and some spices, i'll take five of each

[–] essell@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I believe when they bred the Pomato they were quite poisonous, so the other one

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

pomato hands down.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Is cutting out my tongue an option

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Can we cook them? If not, I want the tomato that tastes like potato. If we can cook them, switch that.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago

Neither. If I want to taste a tomato, I'll eat a tomato.

[–] 5715@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] Friendlybirdseggs@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] JackFrostNCola@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

Totato seems fairly practical, if you slice thin enough it could create interesting burgers or salads, however if you could turn Pomato into mashed potato it could save a bunch of effort mashing...

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Potato flavored tomato? A bland tomato? I already eat those fried with egg wash and cornmeal. (One large tomato is enough for 1-2 people, don’t repeat my mistake. We ate fried green tomatoes for days in multiple forms.)

A tomato flavored potato? That’ll condense some of my recipes and ruin others. But also a yes.
