As Mastodon comments don't sync to Lemmy, I'll re-post it as a top level comment for anyone else wondering why the Haavara Agreement was not a good thing:
Zionist terrorism in Palestine was already a thing by 1907. One of those early terror groups was Haganah.
These terrorist organisations eventually became Irgun who went on to form Lehi. Irgun themselves commited numerous terrorist attacks against the British and Palestinian peoples in Mandatory Palestine. Menachem Begin their founder was as the British described it the "leader of the notorious terrorist organisation"..
Irgun would later merge into the IDF.
Lehi tried to ally with the Nazi's during WW2 against the British as they had promised Mandatory Palestine to the Palestinians.
All three of those groups, Haganah, Irgun, Lehi involved David Ben-Gurion who would become the first PM of Israel. Israel has been explicitly linked to Nazism since it's earliest days.
Now the Haavara Agreement directly circumvented the Nazi boycott, it benefit only those rich enough to buy, and further consolidated the bonds between Nazi's and Zionists by legitimising Nazi rhetoric. Bonds that were reciprocal through figures such as S.S. Officer Leopold von Mildenstein who wrote a 12 part article called 'A Nazi Travels to Palestine'
tl;dr: Zionists were not refugees but willing collaborators and enablers with the the Nazi regime, who sold out poor Jewish people so they could colonise their 'homeland'.
Fun Fact: Ze'ev Jabotinsky one of the earliest Zionist terrorists who formed groups across Europe before helping fund Irgun, was Netanyahu's role model. Jabotinsky trained Begin, Begin formed Likud (the party Netanyahu leads), and Begin trained Netanyahu. Netanyahu is directly linked in ideology and party to those who same figures who committed massacres and terror attacks against innocent people and tried to work with the Nazi's on multiple occasions.
