The military institution stated that “it was a reprisal action for the Ukrainian terrorist attack on the residence of President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, in Novgorod region, which occurred early December 29, 2025.”
The release adds that the airstrike, which employed the Oreshnik hypersonic missile for the second time, successfully struck “facilities where the unmanned aerial vehicles used in the terrorist attack were produced, as well as energy infrastructure targets that support Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.”
The Ministry also warned that “any terrorist action by the criminal Ukrainian regime will continue to be met with a response.”
It is worth remembering that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Ukraine on December 29 of launching an airstrike on the presidential residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones.
The head of Russian diplomacy stated that all drones involved in the strike were intercepted by air defenses.
