The correct message is not "lol stupid libs". It's "Hey, you. You're finally awake", ideally followed by tips about how to organize resistance.
So now that the mask has fallen, can we have class solidarity??
I see a lot of comments like "America is unrecognizable now." No, this is always how America has been. Difference is now it's happening to white people and not just POCs and other minorities, and the quiet parts are being said out loud instead of staying quiet.
White people have been murdered by cops before and people still didn't give a shit. Since those people were young men and often poor or on the spectrum/handicapped. Suburban Libs start caring now because the victim is a white woman living in suburbia.
So much this. And I gotta love 'The Wire' for doing a comprehensive view on society from different angles, clearly highlighting the "wrong zip code" effect: bodies that don't matter because they were black people in a poor neighborhood. Only hurt/dead white people in rich areas get people even remotely interested, especially when looking at the big picture instead of single cases.
Even in Joker that was one of the main point that's said in the movie: "had it been me the one in the ground you would have stepped on me without even looking down. But because they were rich white blond guys it's a tragedy" (not his exact words, I know).
That line is heartbreaking when you learn that Joaquin Phoenix's IRL brother died of a heroin overdose in the streets of New York while people stepped over his dying and dead body.
It's only happening to a small subset of white people though. This is how fascism operates. They keep taking chunks out of the complacent masses so they don't all rise up at once. That's why solidarity is so important.
Let's hope they bit off more than they can chew this time but that remains to be seen.
Unfortunately the US was founded on the opposite of solidarity.
Well, where empathy fails fear might succeed. 🤷
Not to defend cops in any way shape or form, but ICE aren't technically police.
ICE are a Secret police. Their sole loyalty is to Donald Trump's regime and their sole function is political violence against minorities and anyone anyone who stands against them or their ideology. They are allowed not just to use deadly force for any reason but to actively seek out death for the smallest of infractions.
The police get three months of training, ICE get given a gun and told to attack not just minorities, but anyone in the room with them. Citizenship means nothing. Laws mean nothing.
They then ship you off to a concentration camp where you cannot get help far away from anyone who can object, often in another country.
ICE is literally how the Blue Live Matter people wants the regular police to be, a solely politicial force that attacks any person who doesn't belong to the in group for merely being part of the outgroup. It is literally how police with the mask off.
Good. Stay divided. That'd make things easier.
Yup. Cops have been killing people indiscriminately in this country for decades. This shit is nothing new. This is what the USA has always been.
The cops need to have their hand guns taken away. Norway has way less killings.
The institution of the police needs to be abolished and our systems of government revolutionized.
In America, even if the police forces were somehow all brainwashed instantly into being righteous people, this wouldn't be viable cause there are simply too many guns in circulation. Valuing the power to submit others over everything and the MIC are one hell of a drug cocktail!
IDK, I think most people were just as outraged about George Floyd.
To me it's important to raise the biggest possible stink about ICE goons actually killing someone, regardless of skin tone.
And it's not like we didn't see this coming a mile away, and she's probably not the last one to die by ICE goons, not to speak of the people who died in detention.
I still have normal folks argue that if Floyd had just complied, it would have never been an issue. This despite the guilty conviction for murder, clearly indicating that the cop was the one in the wrong.
People will always blame the victim, it’s easier for them to accept, because if they defend the victim, that means they could be one. People will always prefer the explanation that allows them to feel superior.
Did we all just forget that the nationwide protests that started with George Floyd's murder started with the police in Minneapolis? No, it's not the first time and it's not even Minneapolis' first time.
Native Americans are the OG "first-timers" for these barbarians but they didn't even leave enough of them to tell the story. 😐
Ah yes, the famous political leanings: Lib and Black.
newsflash, it always was a police state, they just arnt hiding it anymore. consistently all the MSM had significant amount copaganda on thier networks to "normalize" the bad cop as a good cop, this also extends to military propaganda too,.
They'll never realize how insanely offensive it is for someone to say:
Now that I am effected, I recognize there is a problem. Now everyone I've been telling to shut up for decades now needs to shut up and do exactly as I say, if you want anything more or even less than me, you're worse than trump.
Sometimes a hypocrite is just a person in the process of changing. Late is better than never.
Yeah, and sometimes a hypocrite is just a lying sack of shit.
Have you been keeping tabs on everyone who has a problem with what's going on, so that you can so confidently say that they didn't give a shit about it before? Or do you just get off on feeling superior, and you're prioritizing that over the need to contribute to the momentum that's happening now?
Are you forgetting 2020, and the months-long nationwide protests that erupted in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis? Or do you think the people who are outraged today aren't for the most part the same people who were outraged then?
Even back then I remember folks like you complaining about how the rest of the movement supposedly didn't care before. How far back does one have to go? Cause I guarantee you no one alive today was around to support abolition, if that's what's required for you to be satisfied.
You seem to be projecting though, because despite eveyone who did care when the victims were black, you seem to not care now that the victim is white. You seem more upset that people care about this than you are about the fact that someone was murdered.
"No one would care if the victim was black." Bitch, please. There's a recurring pattern of chasing away everyone who cares, only to complain next time that no one cared last time. You're shooting yourself in the foot over and over again and blaming anyone who tries to help.
Thank fuck not everyone is as smug as you, otherwise no one would ever join a progressive cause. You realize in order to effect change in this system you need to convince a sizable portion of voters that you actually have their best interests in mind, right?
You clowns being unable to remember what happened in that exact city 6-7 years ago is why we're in this shit
Edited because I'm bad at time and we're living in hell
ICE are not Police
Police obtain legal warrants from judges and district attorneys, apprehend people to be given fair trial and if needed Habeas Corpus right to prove they do not belong in custody.
ICE do not obtain warrants, do not adhere to local laws, they do not respect habeas corpus.
ICE are not Police, ICE are just criminal thugs
You are half right. You are very generous with the theoretical mechanics of policing and perhaps not as familiar with the reality of it.
Perhaps it is naive, but I think the point here was that the police, technically and legally speaking, are much more restricted. As flawed as it is both legally and in actuality, police is still way more restricted and accountable than ICE is both legally and in actuality.
Agreed. Zero accountability is not equivalent to theoretically substantial, but poorly enforced by design accountability.
That's pretty fucking fair actually.
It's desperate. They want to temper any response to this one in particular.
It's basically "You're not allowed to be upset about this one or you're racist."
Its fun to accuse murder victims of white privilege? That's a weird hobby.
He's not making fun of the victims, he's making fun of the pearl-clutchers.
Upvoted because correct take and humrous, but the text at the bottom of the top panel should have been made to at least look simialar to the subtitle text of the bottom panel ...
Today in being pedantic...
It will never cease to amaze me how much even ostensibly left wing Americans give the Republicans a free pass to be as awful as they like and not get criticised at all.
It’s not the police. It is ICE. 2 completely different things.
Also i've never been okay with killing minorities either.
How is this helping? Get out of here with that crap.
They have a point no one wants to admit. If Renee Good was a minority, it would have had a 4 hour news cycle like the other 4 ICE killings.
"BUT YOU BLACK AMERICANS DON'T UNDERSTAND! SHE WAS WHITE AND A MOTHER!" /s
