According to data released by the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources, Alicia Barcena, among the main initiatives will be the cleanup of Tula, Atoyac, and Lerma-Santiago rivers, as they represent three of the 115 most polluted sites in the country’s watersheds.

Authorities will also monitor the National Strategy for Cleaning Beaches and Coasts and the implementation of the National Environmental Restoration Program in marine and coastal ecosystems, with an emphasis on mangroves and wetlands.

In addition, they will draft the Law of Seas and Coasts for Mexico and the General Law on Territorial Planning.

Under the command of President Claudia Sheinbaum, Barcena said that efforts will go to implementing a National Solid Waste Program to help municipalities and communities resolve their landfill problems or even fully embrace the circular economy.

In that regard, she commented that the development of an Ecological and Recycling Park is being evaluated after receiving various proposals for its establishment.
