I have kidnapped a head of state, join me at my luxury resort for details

This is the kind of shit my prez in tropico would do

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 51 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The only difference right now between tropico and the us is the size of the country.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 147 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (8 children)

It should be stressed how not-normal this is. Don't let the media tell you it's okay just because some people will be very happy. Maduro is a dictator that has murdered entire families. It's understandable. However, you can't kidnap the leader of another state because you don't like them. If so, it would be just as justifiable to kidnap Trump or Putin. This doesn't make the world safe and the best case scenario is that they install a leader that allows the US to rape Venezuela for it's resources while personally enriching Trump. The worse is civil war.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

At this point, I wouldn't mind if Mexico disappeared Trump and the chain of command.

Trump is a threat to Americans who oppose him, it is very likely that he will attempt to murder people like AOC, Mamdani, and Mark Kelly in the years to come. Venezuelans, Californians, New Yorkers, there is no difference to him. So long as people defy his will or has something he can steal, he will assault them.

“We captured someone in another country as per conjunction with US law enforcement”

You just can’t make this shit up- but they did.

Honestly how the fuck is any satire publication like the onion or similar still in business with the current state of reality???

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 49 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They changed business. They're not satirical anymore. They are oracles foreseeing the events of the next weeks.

[–] Madrigal@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (3 children)

The change occurred about the time they put out the article on Gillette skipping 4 blades and going straight to 5.

Can Interpol please please please put out a warrant for Trumps arrest. That fat orange thug needs some kind of consequences for his crimes.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 34 points 3 months ago

Interpol serves at the pleasure of the American empire. You can't expect institutions to help you in this fight. You need a grassroots people-powered movement.

And already my 2026 bingo card is deprecated. Kidnapping a head of state, that one is new.

The military is NOT us law enforcement.

You fat fucking tub of shit, and no amount of you saying it is will trick people into thinking so when you keep trying to use them as such inside the country.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

I don't know, there are a LOT of gullible fucking idiots who absolutely will be tricked.

Racism. Trump promised a lot of it, and he is delivering onthat promise.

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (7 children)

Because the Dems ran a lackluster campaign that promised more of the same, telling everyone that the economy is doing great while everyone is struggling. Orange man at least offered hope that things would change. People NEED hope. And with trust of the government at an all time low, with some serious money in media manipulation, this is what we get

A rogue state with the most powerful military. The next world war is going to primarily be everyone vs the barbaric Americans. I could see it ending up like The Man in the High Castle. A nation fractured into Christofascist and liberated regions. That's if the rest of the world can even muster and offensive.

The axis (Russia, China, USA) isn't really an axis that it's made out to be. That's mainly US state propaganda that is pushing the whataboutism to diminish the severity of their evilness. Russia is a non-factor now that it's blown its military load on Ukraine. China doesn't actually care about world domination. They care more about economic strength. Maybe they take Taiwan. It's a small island. US state propaganda will make it seem like a whole continent. Whataboutism. There's only one nation on this planet since World War II that was waged continuous conflict throughout the world. Every region. One might even say the world has been under constant American threat since 1945. A slow burning, never-ending war. They feed us their media soft-power to keep us sedated.

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 35 points 3 months ago (16 children)

why did they "kidnap" his wife too?

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 32 points 3 months ago (5 children)

Why put "kidnap" in quotes, it's not as if it's a wild claim?

It certainly wasn't lawful in Venezuela, where I believe the kidnapping occurred.

We're not even a full year into this lunatic's reign.

And I'm not sure how to feel about it. They stormed in, took the president and fucked off. Presumably they'll install the other candidate, who will let the newly formed Trump Oil have their pick of it.

And still, I'd take that over what they normally do, which is invade, terrorise the whole country for a decade or two, murder and torture a load of civilians, and then do all the other stuff anyway. I'm not sure how many times they can do this to regimes they don't like. I'd assume that all the other tin pot dictators are on the phone right now ordering a lot of very thick underground bunkers, and enough tins of beans to last 20 years.

We live in interesting times...

[–] LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Trump is actually now saying that the US will install a puppet state and have the American military take over their oil industry.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, the US invasion of Venezuela is setting precedence and signal to China's annexation of Taiwan and dampens the illegality of Russian invasion of Ukraine. It's a successful move on Trump and creates a "rally around the flag" effect on voters and distract them from Epstein files.

Zero percent chance he actually wrote this one.

Also, he’s a fucking madman and has to be stopped!

[–] Magnum 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States carried out a lightning military strike on Venezuela early Saturday, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and spiriting them out of the country. President Donald Trump said the U.S. is “going to run” Venezuela until a transition of power can occur and the U.S. will tap the country’s vast oil reserves as part of a rebuilding effort.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 41 points 3 months ago (2 children)

“Lightning military strike”, what an interesting turn of phrase.

How would one say that in German? Just wondering.

Next invasion of Canada and Greenland

[–] plyth@feddit.org 19 points 3 months ago

Hoping that people realize that it's the US that is causing the wars.

If the US don't receive sanctions for this, people could also realize that it never is the war that is bad but the loss of western influence.

[–] focusforte@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What the actual fuck is he doing???

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Well, see, that's the thing, he barely knows. Trump is a child who wants all of the cookies. He also wants everyone else to know that he has all the cookies. And even more he wants to be remembered forever as the guy that got all the cookies.

All his life the guy failed straight into success. It's all seemed easy to him, too, because never once has he faced a consequence.

If he's not stopped, he's going to drop The Bomb on somewhere. I don't even expect the target to make sense, but it will be erased from the map as solidly as Trump's infamy is sealed in the collective memory.
