And you were luck to live to 30.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Pffftt enough with this shit.

The average life-expectancy was around 30 because the massive child mortality took the average so much down.

If you made it to your late teens, you'd have your three score and ten more often than not.

Honestly? I’d take the 20–30 person tribe and the berry-picking… but I’d still like modern dentistry and a warm shower. Balance, please 😅

Well I kind of agree with the sentiment. Pretty sure evolution has surpassed the times that we lived in caves and in fields and slept under the Stars.

evolution didn't suddenly stop at the turn of human civilization. It just shapes human evolution. Evolution is guided by the needs of the species. If some people feel energized chasing deer all day but society needs doctors, lawyers, etc... then those that are energized performing the new needs of society are going to have an advantage

The issue with evolution is that it doesn't really act fast enough to keep up with civilization, which lasted for an extremely short time relative to the entire time our species existed.

There are 2 kinds of evolution, one is gradual changes over a long time, the other is when a massive event causes a filter and only a certain subset is able to continue (punctuated equilibrium). Human civilization in its own right is punctuated equilibrium

Lol I'm disabled, so both in a hunter gatherer society or current America, if I don't have a social safety net, I die. That's not even counting all the times I would have been dead if not for antibiotics 😂
