What do you mean fight? I will gladly watch Dune part 3 multiple times before I watch Marvel again.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net -1 points 2 hours ago

I've seen both already so thanks. All Marvel movies are basically the same and the new Dune is just a slower version of the old one. I saw some of it and it's literally the same movie scene for scene but each scene has some unnecessary filler and is twice as long.

Haven't watched an entire marvel movie since endgame.

I don't particularly hate or dislike them but I don't care to watch them.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

They've made movies since endgame!?

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 3 points 7 hours ago

Indeed, and some of them (according to others) have been quite good.

I have seen bits and pieces of like 4 or 5 of them but I honestly couldn't say which ones except black panther. They weren't bad, they just couldn't hold my interest and I stopped watching.

Calling it first.

After Barbenheimer, Avengers: Dunesday.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Oh it's no secret, studios saw the cultural phenomenon of barbenheimer and now try to manufacture it for profit. They did the same with wicked last year with some other flop of a movie. They're actively trying to make it happen again, trying to seem young and hip.

That's so fetch

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 27 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

And Dune will get my holiday time.

Same, read that and thought "oh sweet I can see Dune"

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

No problem, I’ll just pirate both of them.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 2 points 1 hour ago

Stealing a marvel movie is still too expensive

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I’m loving the dune movies so far and I can’t wait to watch part three.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 19 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

They're my favourite movies since LOTR and absolute fucking masterpieces of cinema imo.

They're another example of "this shit is unfilmable" being turned into amazing films.

I like the casting of Anya Taylor Joy to play Paul's sister too because she's a weird looking fucking alien person and is perfect for the role of psycho fetal hallucinogenic syndrome person.

psycho fetal hallucinogenic syndrome

Fucking lol.

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 19 points 12 hours ago

Won’t be much of a fight tbh

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 11 points 11 hours ago

I’m so done with MCU movies.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 13 points 12 hours ago

How about "neither"?

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago

Sweet.

Both will, of course, need to compete with the one of the Captain Americas, a couple of Marx Brothers movies, and a that one backwards one (Tenant) that I'm excited for, but haven't found time to see, yet.

I didn't make the call to enshitify streaming services, or run 37 minutes of ads before every feature film, but it definitely changed how I enjoy movies.

Anyway. I bet I will get around to seeing Dune and Doom. I might even watch them during a holiday.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

jesus, they're really starting the advos for this a year out?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Like I can't see both? 🤷‍♂️

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

No! Well, yeah, sure... but secretly, on the surface one must maintain the petty clickbait controversy facade, like Blur vs Oasis back in the 90s. Or more recently, In 'n' Out vs Five Guys.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Or in case of yo momma, Five Guys, In 'n' Out.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social -2 points 11 hours ago

The only manufactured controversy I've seen with the last two is shit that claims Five Guys is good.

[–] Stefan_S_from_H@piefed.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

I kind of feel like an asshole nerd. I only want to watch DUNC 3 to see if it pisses off the fans of DUNC 1 & 2 who misunderstood them.

[–] Cnote5@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

There is no need to fight. I have love enough for both of them.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 11 hours ago

given my excitement about modern media. I very much doubt it.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

I have no plans to watch either.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 1 points 12 hours ago

Yay, more movies based on existing IP that I couldn't give a shit about. Woo.

[–] Nanook@lemmy.zip 0 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

White messiah movie vs white messiah movie

[–] cravl@slrpnk.net 14 points 10 hours ago

Dune is not a white savior story though, and neither is Dune Messiah (which Frank Herbert wrote in part to make that message as clear as possible). While Paul is trying to be a savior figure, he's using everyone for his own ends the entire time. The top comment on this wonderful video says it best:

Dune’s entire historical narrative has always been, “Beware of the Tyrant wrapped in Savior clothing.”

[–] hayvan@piefed.world 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Dune isn't exactly a messiah movie, although it's literally based on the book Dune Messiah.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip -3 points 12 hours ago

The choice will be more supercape shit or more vainglorious Dune shit.

Hard pass on both.
