Looks like it can be flashed with ESPHome.

Or a zigbee feeder is another option.

I have one on local network and SD recording only. No cloud anything. What does suck is it needs to use prtlibros app and software.

Goddamn hackers stole my cat treats!

I never understood why people would buy their products with an internet connection. They sell perfectly fine dump-automatic-feeders where you can configure everything with the controls on the device itself. Have a 5l dual-feeder (did cost me 100 bucks) which usually lasts for more than a week, perfect to leave the cats alone for a weekend away. Combined with automated waste disposal the only thing you need to do (other than maintaining the machines from time to time) is pet and cuddle with them.

Unfortunately I don't know of any brands that sell non-IoT dry food feeders that have RFID/microchip recognition. My kitties are geriatric and require different prescription foods. Fortunately I bought a model that doesn't have mic/camera, they're on an isolated network, and I have network wide ad/tracker blocking. But I'd be open to alternatives if you know of any.

Our bowl works pretty well, and is not tracking our data!

A bowl is most usefull when it is ~~empty~~ serving your personal data to our overlords, the corporations.

I thought our overlords were the cats.

So, it's doing it's job. Feeding.

Misread as Pelletburo, now sad there's no pet feeder called that

Cat no potato. Only cold.

Your cat's data belongs to the people, comrade!

I actually got the feeder in the thumbail, but that one isn't smart. Or at least the model I have isn't, maybe they added it in the past 2 years. I can recommend it, I guess watch out to get one that is not smart. When I decided on it I explicitly decided against various others that boasted control via a phone app.

Honestly, if you have the money, just get a Superfeeder. I have 2 of them for my cats and I love them.

Basically, they're like an enterprise version of a consumer grade cat feeder. Completely no nonsense, all physical adjustments, and super customizable. I have them hooked up to my home assistant install (via smart plugs) to be able to better control when the cats get fed (because the little piggies would over eat if I let them) and ensure the automations run as expected (which is great for those with pet anxiety). I've had mine for 4 years (and 2 sets of kitties) now, and it's a breeze to change settings when you have to change foods, if a bit fiddly to dial in how much you're giving them.

How many times has it jammed?

[–] bonenode@piefed.social 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I am happy with what I have but thanks for the recommendation!

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

All good, that was more a recommendation that was supposed to be at the top level

Glad you're happy with your setup tho!
