Well. You have to start somewhere. 🙂

We have a big community on Signal and Discord, but Lemmy hasn't quite taken off.

Why don't you go live in the woods if you hate society so much.

[–] yodeljunkmanenvy@piefed.social 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, New Hampshire is pretty wooded ✅

I think the vast majority of Americans love our society. We all just disagree about how to make it better!

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Like not funding it, how elegant.

Hey guess what, today is educate a libertarian day.

The money don’t come out of thin air. Your property taxes are highest in the nation, you have extra business taxes, extra fuel taxes, and specific targeted fees that make up for it.

You got me! 🙂

  • Yes, our property taxes are kind of high. There is legislation proposed this year to cap them at inflation.
  • I don't think our Business Enterprise (payroll) tax is that high, but there is also a rollback planned for this year, from 0.55% to 0.50%.
  • We receive our share of federal gas tax, and we have tolls on the major highways which generate money for road repairs. That's more of a user fee than a tax, which is much better!

All of that still doesn't change the fact that our workers take home 100% of their pay (from the state at least)! 🙂

Is it though? It prices people out of things. Eventually yourself included

[–] yodeljunkmanenvy@piefed.social -4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It is. Broad-based taxes take money from everyone whether they use the service or not. With a user fee, the way to avoid paying it is to not use the service.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh but its not, because people who may require said service may not have the means to use it. That's what being a part of a society is about.

Is a prime example. But things like public transit can be subsidized, or in proper places free, and various social services are also funded by tax payers

[–] Ellvix@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

So do they not repair roads or what

[–] DredPyr8Roberts@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The states have to get their revenue from somewhere. For NH, it's corporate taxes and property taxes. It's a problem, and they're looking to raise government fees in 2026 to generate more revenue.

[–] yodeljunkmanenvy@piefed.social -3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

No, the roads are great. My neighborhood was just repaved this summer! 🙂

[–] thelittleblackbird@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Wow, what a terrible idea, so. It means no safety net for people, not even for those lucky strikes that send you 1 week ICU.

Also it means that the goverment can not act like the last resource insurance or just distribute the risk to all the population for risk wide county, effectively reducing the quota at the same time that nobody is left behind.

Also not future planning or things with long return investment...

What more could go wrong?

[–] SEND_BUTTPLUG_PICS@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Their motto is "Live Free or Die" but weed is still illegal. Also, sure they have no income tax but their property tax is insane.

[–] yodeljunkmanenvy@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago

We probably have the coolest state motto, haha!

[–] yodeljunkmanenvy@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

You're right. There's still work to do!

Weed is legal for medical use, and a bill for recreational use passed the house this year, but it died in the Senate.

Also, there is legislation to cap property taxes at the rate of inflation.
