Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If you save her live twice every year, how many lives did you save per year?

Your banker made fun of you. That's not how life savings accounts work.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 23 hours ago

None. You didn't save anything. You merely prolonged their suffering. Sicko.

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

None. God clearly wants her dead and you're just delaying the inevitable.

I would ask The Fray. They seemed to know a lot about How To Save A Life.

Under the premise of a life not being a commodity, then each time you save a specific life it counts as +1 life saved. Or if you're a bastard then who cares.

[–] marzhall@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

One plus the number of lives she saved each time you save her.

One. It's the same life, otherwise you could save infinite lives by care taking for a suicidal octogenarian

Unless they got pregnant in between

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You usually can't get pregnant in your 80's lol

You saved her life. Twice.

Doesn’t matter, MJ still friendzones Peter.

as Uncle Ben used to say, "With great power comes great entitlement"

The first save gets downgraded from a "life save" to a "6 months save". You have to return the hero crown they gave you.

If you Murderdeathkill someone, and they come back as a zombie, can you still get in trouble?

[–] NachBarcelona@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

Very rare Demolition Man reference.

You saved one life twice. But is there any significance to this being 'her' rather than 'they'? Did you have a specific person in mind?

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 31 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

In some languages (i.e., italian and spanish), "person" is a feminine word (the word itself has ha gender, grammatically). Maybe OP isn't a native english speaker and they're just translating literally their thought, implying "someone" as "a person".

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If it was 'he' nobody would have questioned it, which kinds gives me pause for thought.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It would have bothered me to the same degree, I don't know about you. I haven't seen anyone on Lemmy using 'he' as a 'gender neutral' pronoun yet, but I assure you I would correct it just as I regularly do in real life.

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I try to notice it but often fail.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's even more ambiguous given that it's specifically a "her" so if she was pregnant, it could complicate things depending on your view on whether or not a fetus is a life...

👀

Although a 'he' could also have a womb. It's interesting how OP has assigned a gender to this post, not really oddly specific but getting there.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 5 points 1 day ago

If they caught some babies or other parasite in the meantime, you may have saved much more lives.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 3 points 1 day ago

Under US law you can now murder that person twice, because of the Judd Act.

1 lives it's the same life but you saved that specific life twice
