Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

This is a good shower thought. Probably a good idea to call a psychiatrist rather than a cop tho

Also I want to mention that “multiple personality disorder” is now called Dissociative Identity Disorder and there’s no real consensus that truly having multiple separate identities in the same brain is even possible.

Lost time (gaps in memory) and significant changes in personality over time are a thing, but the existence of separate identities seems most likely to be societal response, as in people just acting out the fantasy that they have different identities.

Acting like you have multiple personalities, especially using that kind of fantasy to deal with trauma or life, is still a real mental illness. It’s just not really “multiple personalities” as portrayed in media or pop culture

Me trying to convince myself to pls not kms

Frantically calls a swat team

It's called dissociate identity disorder and as someone who has it, it would depend if your talking metaphorically, or society, as society would could consider one body means it would be a suicide, however metaphysical and philosophy it would would depend on the system and how they are.

Just know, most people with d.i.d. are not "making people up" and identities in there systems are very real.

If one of the personalities is a hostage negotiator you got yourself a —fuckme… that terrible director with a collection of goth girls at his gate — M. Night Shyamalan movie 🍿

I’d watch the shit out of that!

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I’d watch it ironically… is it to soon to watch a Nazi fighting an alien?

Autoserialkiller?

What if the aggressor misses, and stabs the wrong one?

No. Alternate identities in people with DID (dissociative identity disorder) are not literally other people; they're different identity complexes within the same person. Such a person would need a good therapist/psychiatrist, not a hostage negotiator.

I think this is called "punching down" and is no longer an acceptable form of humor.

Although, to be fair, they do actually outnumber us in a 1v1 situation.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you need to lighten up. It’s not punching anywhere.

I can't tell if the downvotes are against my punching down statement or my follow-up joke about being outnumbered.
