A Canadian journalism community for independent news, reports, blogs, editorials, and whatever.

*Independent journalism is generally free from government and corporate interests, and not controlled by a major media conglomerate. “Independence” is a gradient, so use your best judgement when posting.

*Current depends on whether new, publicly available information has been released since the article has last been updated. When in doubt, add the publishing or last revision date to the title in a tag [like this.]

Check out !Independent_Media@lemmy.today for independent news from around the world.

Or go to !wildfeed@sh.itjust.works for a less serious, anything-goes news community

All communities were created with the goal of increasing media literacy and media pluralism.

MODERATORS

I had my concerns: the scrutiny, the time engagement, my own thoughts about the limitations of politics — even at the hyper-local municipal level – as much as its effectiveness.

I often describe voting as the “wiping your ass” of civil participation. Just because you did it doesn’t mean you can skip a shower and call yourself clean. You can’t vote and say you did your part for the next four years.

But fuck it, what’s the worst that can happen?
