Remember the kid who ran for student government and promised no homework and more snow days. Republicans remind me of them.

For anyone that wants to read. The $0.2T from tariffs is from the government's own propaganda announcements: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/thanks-president-trump-cbp-announces-record-breaking-200-billion

The 2025 $1.9T deficit is the CBO projection: https://www.cbo.gov/publication/61172

12 billion bribe to farmers

And while it hasn't happened yet there will be a Net 70 Billion Revenue Loss (not counting interest) from the Big Beautiful Bill cutting taxes for earners who make more than $916,000. The bill will increase deficit by a trillion over 10 years, offset by cutting SNAP and Medicaid by 930 Billion in the same time period.

You never see the rot until you start digging into the framework.

This is the natural progression of that yearbook chestnut:

It's not enough that I should succeed - others should fail.

Trump wants everyone and thing to fail but himself. That is the only way Trump and every other billionaire will be satisfied. Them win; everyone else must lose.

Fascist governments throughout history have always been largely incompetent and never made things better for the people who voted for it. They're great for making rich people even richer in record time though.

Fascist governments throughout history have always been largely incompetent

Kinda. Fascism requires a different power and economic structure. Particularly in the age of democracy where borders and populations are both more solid and liquid simultaneously. Apparent incompetence is often an attempt at quelling dissent from either the population or regime. They range from smart to dumb, but largely more brutal. Don’t mistake an air fryer for a toaster oven just because they both produce a lot of hot air

never made things better for the people who voted for it

Usually, yeah. Concentrating power means fewer people have to be pleased with you to maintain power. That’s why democracy is usually better to its citizenry, you have to please more people.

They’re great for making rich people even richer in record time though.

I think it's also worth mentioning the huge cuts they made to social services or anything that might serve to improve peoples' lives in favour of giving tax cuts to billionaires.

If Eisenhower were alive, he would probably be horrified by the military-industrial complex that has grown into a monster far beyond anything he could possibly have conceived when he warned against it in 1959. Every single weapon that we possess beyond what is absolutely necessary for a reasonable defense constitutes theft from the American people.

There is no other honest way to describe spending $1Trillion dollars a year on "defense" than theft because it can only be accomplished by stealing health and welfare, mostly from the poorest Americans.

We should already be in a postwar society but these knuckle draggers don't care.

[–] affenlehrer@feddit.org 10 points 4 days ago

It's almost like scammer billionaires can't run a country like a (scam) company

The tariffs were never about bringing in taxes, they were about manipulating the market while isolating the US from the rest of the world.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago

It's hard to overstate the level of incompetence and arbitrary defiance in this administration.
Look at how the buyers for US Treasuries are changing. US is going to face even more draconian service/benefit cuts, default, devalue the dollar, or all of the above.
Raising taxes on the oligarchs is of course impossible.

Apartheid dipshit and the orange shitgibbon with no successes to their name except fooling the gullible. What else is new?

They just say ridiculous shit so they can rob you blind, idk how many times Americans must learn this lesson. Your leaders kill innocents for money around the globe, do you think they'll suddenly be moral, righteous people at home? Remember "trickle down economics"? Just because they give something a label doesn't mean that that something is actually a real thing ("woke", "DEI", "Trump derangement syndrome"...)
