spoilerThe Palestinian organizations Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine have agreed to continue escalating security tensions and violent action against Israel, they announced Sunday. The groups agreed to increase coordination between them to "deal with Israel's aggression."

The decision was made at a meeting in Beirut attended by senior officials in the organizations, including the head of the Hamas political bureau, Salah al-Aruri; Islamic Jihad's deputy general secretary, Ziad al-Nakhla; and the PFLP's deputy secretary general, Jamil Mazhar.

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, condemned the "Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people, its land and its holy places and the ongoing daily killings." According to him, "the occupation government strives to drag the region into escalation by continuing the aggression."

The past eight days seen a renewal of Palestinian protests at the Gaza border, five years after the "March of Return" that saw thousands of participants. Palestinian organizations in Gaza announced that they would renew the protests last month.

Two Palestinians were killed and an Israeli soldier was wounded earlier Sunday after troops entered the Nur Shams refugee camp in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

On Friday, a man was killed by the army in the village of Dan northwest of Jenin, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Islamic Jihad identified him as one of its fighters.

A few days earlier, on Tuesday, Palestinian officials announced that three people had been killed and at least 30 wounded when the military launched an airstrike on the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin.

That same day, a Palestinian was shot dead and nine people were wounded during clashes at the Gaza border.
