The first time I heard about Star Citizen and S42, I was a teen and wasn't able to save up enough allowance to buy even the cheapest ship/the game.

Now I'm looking to build a house with the love of my life.

I'll probably have grandkids by the time this actually comes out. I have zero interest left.

I liked the comment on a YouTube talking about this game saying when it finally releases people will be playing with ships they've inherited from their parents

[–] thingsiplay@beehaw.org 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

You mean one can play ships from Star Citizen in Squadron 42? Otherwise, how would the parents have ships already playing the game, if its not released. I'm a bit confused about what is meant here.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 3 points 3 months ago

I was just talking about Star Citizen

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 2 points 3 months ago

They mean sc not s42

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Welcome to modern video games, people have been waiting even longer for GTA VI

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Star Citizen has been in development since before both GTA V and goddamn Skyrim released

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They literally both started 2014

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The SC kickstarter was 2012, but it started development in 2010

I don't think it's fair to call that the same game considering it got put in the bin and started over, whilst they are also building a second game first

Last year I developed a neuropathy severely limiting my motor control and more or less ending my ability to play games. I've had other issues going on and it is unlikely I will be around to watch my son play them. So I have started getting my accounts set up for my family to take when I die.

S42 took so long I'm actually willing it to my child... Lol, fkn got me.

Will I finally get the single player portion of the pack-in game that came with my Radeon R9 280?

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 8 points 3 months ago

I was gonna call this bullshit, but then I remembered that a buddy of mine sold me his GTX 770 for a good price. He got himself the new GTX 970 so he would be ready for the upcoming release.

At this point, I believe Half-Life 3 will come out before Star Citizen Squadron 42 part.

[–] Agent_Karyo@piefed.world 6 points 3 months ago

That would be the funniest thing ever.

And I am much more interested in HL3 than SQ42 which is very likely to be flashy, but mediocre to bad in many core things.

I don't even need HL3 to be revolutionary, I want to know what happens next and I want to experience the world building of the HL reality.

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

We kind of got that one. Half life alyx released before Star Citizen and it's somewhat a continuation of the story.

These ones cost over $900 million.

Ya but is it fun? Star Citizen is playable but like...last time I tried it, there wasn't quite a gameplay loop yet.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Squadron 42 will be a separate story campaign, when it eventually releases

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

*if it eventually releases

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

SC is supposed to be more of a "space life" sim, so it's kinda like "do what you want." The loop would basically consist of gaining reputation to do missions to earn money/rewards to buy ships so you can do other types of missions/content.

The loop exists, but especially right now I wouldn't trust anything that requires delivering a physical item. They just go poof lately...

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago

There are many different loops, though it is a sandbox game. The narrative story is being written at the moment if that's what you're after

[–] pugnaciousfarter@literature.cafe 6 points 3 months ago

They have to release it in 2026. It my arbitrary deadline for them. Then I give up hope.

They have VCs at the helm rn, I think they might be mitigating some of the Robert micromanagement.

Also fun fact - The original release date was 2017 btw for squadron 42. Lol.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Uh huh. Pull the other one.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 months ago

Actually, nevermind. Try this finger.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

inb4 we see a similar headline in the 2030s

[–] ISolox@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I'll believe it when I see it.

[–] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago
[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

That's great and all, but I understand it's still linear in nature. Talk about canning one of your greatest features.

Anyway, hopefully the state of the world will remain in some semblance of stable until then / until I can buy it off discount.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Seeing is believing.

They've not been sued into the dirt yet? Pfft. Fuuuuck off. 🖕🏼🤣
