I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned. I still put two spaces after a full stop.
But I digress. The question was about other unwritten rules of texting. Over the past year, it's become frowned upon at my company (a multinational with around 130k employees) to use the default yellow emoticons. People are gently reminded to use the colour that most closely resembles their skin. This is for conversations over Teams and Slack.
Two spaces as a convention is due to the monospaced fonts in typewriters.
If you aren't using a monospaced font it's typographically awkward.
Those would be emojis not emoticons.
I miss emoticons. I am so done with emojis.
As to the subject you posted about color, that is crazy.
Being told they must match the skin of their emojis sounds kinda racist.

I've been ridiculed, though also praised, for my relative overuse of ... ellipsis, to indicate a pause in speech, or like, a hanging concept, to be later expanded on.
Many people these days apparently just do not know how ... what I understand as basic grammar and syntax ... how that works.
Of course, that may have something to do with many teachers just literally teaching books by reading aloud or assigning the actual cliff notes summary, instead of the actual book.
Average adult US literacy levels are approximately that of a 5th grader.
Most people are very nearly functionally illiterate now, roughly 15% are at or below a 2nd grade level, so they actually are functionally illiterate.

I once confirmed an appointment over email by saying I'd 'be there with bells on', and the other person took offense. I guess they thought the use of the old-timey phrase was me being sarcastic. I thought it just showed my enthusiasm for the meeting. You just can never tell what will hit a person the wrong way.
None. Modern smartphones have put periods in automatically for so long that anyone bitching about it is just abusively making shit up.
An ellipsis, on the other hand, is passive aggressive. It ... always... implies that something has been omitted. Such as the profanity in the prior sentence.
Damn how old is the average Lemmy user? The amount of people (allegedly) using and expecting perfect punctuation when texting scares me. I never put periods after one-liners except for nuance and if someone else does it looks weird. Depends on the person obviously, for example when my mom texts me I know I shouldnt put much thought into such details.

My parents or rarely messaged folks precede a message by "Hey [my name], <br> (Actual message content)".
It kinda tilts me as it's a chat and not an email and I dislike the mixing of those two medium

Seems weird to me too, I first started texting around 2005 when I finally got a cell phone. When I saw full punctuation I felt like I was getting scolded.
I don't think all full stops in texts are passive-aggressive. I think it's fine if you use one and then do another sentence and just don't put one at the end, like this
I'm not a fan of this line of thinking. I think the above looks sloppy and unfinished, even though I used correct pronunciation throughout, and just left off the full-stop at the end. But, I think that's the format OP is getting at, and the full stop after "passive-aggressive" isn't what's passive-aggressive; it would be the one after "like this" if it were there.
I'm not great at texting. I used to not like texting Android users, not because of green bubbles (IMO green > blue, hue wise), but because I wasn't sure how the text would come across. Because SMS has a limit of 140 characters or something. iMessage doesn't. Neither does RCS, so, when texting an Android user, if it says RCS, I know it's gonna look right. I think most Android phones receive the text in multiple parts, but they know to put it together so it looks good for the user. As opposed to texting, say, flip phones, which don't do anything and it comes through in parts.
I suppose you can gather why I don't use Twitter (or its lookalikes).
A lot of arguing one way or the other here but when my wife starts ending texts with periods I know im fucked.
