My boyfriend and I woke up before 6 AM this morning to a loud banging. Our floor was shaking so hard that our clock fell off the wall and a vase was knocked over. My BF thought we were being bombed, that our building was going to go down, or that an earthquake was happening.
It was our washing machine. I have washed laundry during the night before. I set a timer for it to start a cycle around 4 AM. I do shift work, so my working hours can change a lot. This way, I can have my laundry done before going to a morning shift. Usually, our washing machine makes barely any noise. Not this time, though.
It had etched its way out of its spot under the bathroom counter and went wild with nothing holding it back. If you've seen the video of a brick being thrown into a washing machine, I imagine that is essentially what was going on. /j
We paused the machine and unplugged it from the wall. My boyfriend was so shaken he was actually trembling. I can only imagine what our neighbors are thinking. If we woke up to it, I am sure our downstairs neighbor did too...
I am SO embarrassed. I will never wash laundry during the night ever again. Should I leave a note on the communal notice board explaining what happened?
TL;DR: Our washing machine etched out of its spot during the spin cycle and shook enough to knock a clock off the wall and wake us up in a panic. I feel awful for my neighbors and my BF.
