All schools including home schools and private schools are required to follow the state curriculum, just like public schools. That comment refers to licensing requirements.

You can send your kid to private or religious schools and the city/state foots the bill.”

Kind of. You can apply for an Education Freedom Account . It is a scholarship to attend home school or the private school of your choice. It is $5,000 a year.

For comparison, some school districts spend $26,000 a year per student on public education. It's pretty awesome to choose where your kids go to school! and in the long run the state will spend a lot less money on education.
