That is exactly what he's doing. When he jumps Luke in ESB, he's breathing harder and faster for a bit once the breathing sounds come back on.
Also doesn't he straight up disable life support for some time in few comics? Dude can survive on Force (for limited time but...).
He does for the hallway scene in Rogue One at a minimum. His suit is completely off there so he can scare the crap out of some rebels.
The Force shennanigans are why I don't like how Windu dies. Has no one ever thought to use Force lift on themselves?
Didn't he throw himself out the window to avoid listening to anikin's two and a half hour thesis on TToDPtW?
