All this energy wasted on products most people don't even want but big CEOs think it'll earn them loads of money so fuck the planet I guess.

Crypto mining is still a thing? Capitalism is truly the best at efficient use of resources.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.zip 7 points 22 hours ago

Hey Gemini, show me an efficiency curve based on infinite resources.

why measure against bottled water? that can't possibly be a big percentage of the water people drink.

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The bottled water market globally is rapidly growing with approximately 550 million households consuming bottled water in 2024. That's more than 446 Billion litres of water per year or 1 million bottles per minute.

1 million bottles per minute

Let that sink in

[–] lime@feddit.nu 5 points 23 hours ago

so that's... seven percent?

Bottled water is easy to quantify

While I agree it is an odd metric with a misleading phrasing, at this point all people using this shit should have their electronic devices locked away and online time rationed. Fucking selfish twats.

H20?

I'm not sure how you'd bond twenty hydrogen atoms together, but that sounds... particularly explosive.
