Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I'm less convinced that Liberals are "falling for" this stuff, as I am that they're sharing it because they think it's funny. I upvote the occasional AI meme too...but that doesn't mean I think it's real.

the original to save a click. I don't think there's a lot of people that didn't get the joke

right wingers don't understand jokes, satire, etc. to them a joke is when they spew their hate speech and people don't agree with them. so when they see people post stuff for humour or irony and such they interpret it entirely wrong

Either that or the Dems have used AI to remove the walker

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 37 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I upvoted the trump walker one because the headline quote about signing an AI bill seemed to me to pretty clearly mark it as an AI joke.

That being said, in retrospect maybe by upvoting AI stuff I think is funny doesn't mean others won't fall for it. The dumbest quarter of people can be impressively gullible.

Didn’t the first of these images come out after Trump signed an executive order banning states from regulating AI?

Oh boy wait until you see the absolute garbage the right actually falls for (not even ironically like this image)

This is a dumb article. Something got 800 likes on Facebook? Wow. Something happened on X? WGAF?

The idea that this would be a partisan use case is BS. And yes, we'll have a solid base of slop naïveté within the general population that will distribute more or less evenly along the political spectrum. But more often than not people question shit that seems to be too good to be true. They just don't use Facebook any more because they have common sense. Turning this into the MAGAs vs. The Libs is utterly pointless and clickbaity and I regret having followed through on this link.

Yeah this is just an awful article overall. Likes on social media don't mean shit, you don't know why people liked the picture at all, but more importantly.... There's a billion users, and a fee hundred likes deserve a whole damn article?

I'm not clicking it but... Let me guess... An ad after every paragraph, right?

I wouldn't know. I ad block everything;)

People fell for this? I thought it was identified almost immediately as Ai and used for comedic purposes.

Though I will say once again that all AI should legally have to be labeled as such, with extremely harsh penalties for not doing so.

Liberals hey? Does that mean all conservatives are tween rapists? The media companies have become a joke and want nothing more than to divide us for clicks and cash. We need a web of "people on the street" wannabee journalists streaming reporting from their locations on what is happening on the ground, both good and bad. Worldwide. I think that the "everyman" is more alike than different but it's those 10% shitheels that make all the negative noise just to sell more artillery. Fuck capitalism!

Yeah, my parents wouldn't know what's AI and what isn't. They're 50+. Not really a surprise, tbh. There's a lot of people whose knowledge of tech is not there at all, sadly. But I try to explain it to them as much as possible, tho!

I may have failed to adequately explain to my mother why it is important to try to detect and avoid these things. But, Boomers gonna boomer. "Look at this youtube short of cute dogs" and its' about five clips of a small dog barking at a large dog through a glass door, the glass door gets opened, then the little dog turns to the camera and looks pathetic. One of them is a chihuaua wearing a sombrero and a poncho.

Boomers just...are a lost cause. You can't get them to not actively destroy the world. My father is too fucking stupid to understand the concept of voting with his wallet. He'll buy a product, let's say a lawnmower, that lawnmower will rapidly fail because of an obvious design flaw, and he'll go buy the same make and model to replace it. And that's how they behave with products purchased with significant sums of money. Getting "You have contributed to the downfall of society by sitting through the ad that played before that fake dog video" through their head is like putting a tuna fish through a rock.
