Unfortunately not all forced to work are able to walk/bike 3 miles, though that is a good suggestion for most people. I'd be thrilled to be able to walk 3 miles to work so long as it is safe.

If you can drive a car to work, there are electrified options available that can use bike lanes.

My work is only a few miles away and it only takes me 10 minutes to get there on my bike: I was lucky enough to find a place near work without it being impossible to ride though.

4,82 km in 45 minutes is an easy walk??

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That’s 6.5 km/h, or about 4 mph. Very average.

My most recent measured walk, just wandering in no hurry was 4.37 km in 52 min. That’s 5 km/h or a little more than 3 mph.

So … yes?

Absolutely! I have a regular round I walk around the river that is about 9 km and takes a bit over 1,5 hours, so about the same. A bicycle would save this person tons of time through.

Sure. Maybe I misread, your original comment seemed to be incredulous that someone would consider that an easy walk.

I’d bike it but I wouldn’t mind walking in winter or so.

It really did, sorry about that. Was just too fascinated with the case to think about phrasing. For that distance I'd either bike to save time or walk past or with the traffic to have a nice wake up walk with a podcast in the morning and a disconnect from work walk in the afternoon.

Yep, my area is like that. Long lines starting at 2:30 every day, lasting until at least 7. All along the entire route, there are new, enormous complexes going up on every square inch of open ground, and almost no road widening. When they do try to increase the infrastructure, by the time it's finished, it's already built up too much for the new roads to handle.
