Streaming’s new feature: dynamic pricing based on how emotionally invested you are.

Consumers will love it because they now have skin in the game! - some exec

Putting cameras into all TVs has to pay off somehow.

It's time to sail away from Amazon Prime

It will always be free, matey. I mean, I would never do that, it's illegal, but I've heard good things about all those high seas.

[–] Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Get Stremio with the torrentio plugin and you won't have that problem again.

I would never pay for prime video, they are shit. I pay for amazon prime because Its cheper than paid delivery and they give me prime video for free because that's the only way anyone would watch it.

If you buy a lot of stuff and demand on instant delivery

Google pirate bay proxy

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 50 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Ten years ago my position on piracy was broadly, "do it if you want, but don't act like you're justified or ethical".

Now I'm convinced piracy is more ethical than feeding these monsters.

I also don't consider it a change in my own values. It's a change in how fucking awful and in need of dismantling the Corporation has got.

[–] TheSambassador@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

Absolutely agree. When I got out of college, I was like "I have some money finally, I'll support the shows and movies I want to watch by actually buying them online outright and streaming everything else legally!"

And then several of the things I "bought" got removed from my library several years later.

Then instead of 2 or 3 streaming platforms, there were suddenly 6.

Then every streaming service kept shuffling around my favorite shows.

And suddenly, the experience of paying for the content I wanted to watch became way too cumbersome.

Buy a nas, start storing your own media. All subscription services will remove content, raise prices and introduce more ads. Its not a question of if but when.

Also, you are like a child sucking the capitalism tit when you use these services. Take your pride back.

Change to Linux when you are in the spirit. Grow up and join the adults.

[–] Magnus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I'm on Linux now but why the hell would I want to pay to store media? If I want to watch something I just find it online, 1tb seed it a bunch then leap.. The nas collectors almost want piracy to die to complete their orgasm.

Join the middle aged non binary fuck it people.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

For me its because a lot of movies from the 80s and 90s are hard to find. Not everything exists online anymore. Popular movies generally do but ive had issues finding some things.

And then fast forward another 30 years. Will good movies from today still be there and will we be able to get them as easily?

I just store it so I dont have to worry. :)

If you mainly watch modern movies, then this is a not a problem. But I think a lot of modern movies are really stupid. :)

I watched the new running man and couldnt believe how dumb he acted.

[–] FridaySteve@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

The only thing you need to be careful of is falling out of touch with modern life because you're still watching 90s films in the 2050s. Part of my enjoyment of the niche entertainment I consumed in the 90s came from seeking out new people to enjoy it with, searching for it on the proto-internet, and forming communities around the experience of watching it. I find that nowadays I can watch the film again but it just doesn't bring the same kind of enjoyment that it did when I watched it 30 years ago. I hope I live long so I can see more new entertainment options come out and try those too, and my dvd collection gets lost and broken and water damaged from being left in the closet where it belongs.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

How do you even "rip" media from streaming services? Like how to bypass the drm thing and convert the data to a file?

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 6 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Most people dont do that themselves. They just download. Some people, specially in Russia, just stream movies from sites that exist. I dont do that but its popular.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

You let somebody else do it.

They're are ways that involve extracting keys from vulnerable devices if I understand correctly, but if they become well known then they get blocked.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 5 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Sometimes, you find things so niche, you can't find a torrent for it even after looking through torrent aggregators.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 3 points 8 hours ago

I know how you feel, I searched so long for Encounters of the Spooky kind and I still dont have all of Mr, Vampire.
But also, check archive.org and such. Sometimes stuff ends up in the weirdest places on the internet.

[–] mustlane@lemmy.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

you can't find a torrent for it

If you are talking about books, then annas-archive should suffice. If other media, then private trackers is your only hope. The good ones usually have.. pretty much everything

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Kelsey Grammer was mayor of Chicago in Boss.

Ted Danson is mayor of LA here.

Comming soon ?

Woody Harrelson gets a series being mayor of Vegas?

John Ratzenberger as mayor of NYC?

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

I would pay good money to see Cliff Clavin as mayor of NYC.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 23 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Wait, you pay for Amazon prime and you have to pay for the show?? Why on earth...

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, there's stuff under the subscription and stuff you pay for (although you can pay for anything if you're not a subscriber iirc)

It gives them a perverse incentive to remove shows from the subscription tier if lots of people are watching it. You also get shows where the first few seasons are in the sub, and then suddenly switches to pay for.

They're an easy cancel.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

They also show ads unless you pay more than the prime membership.

I haven't opened prime since that day.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 13 hours ago

I cancelled it the day they announced that

I had a popup for ad free Amazon, a few dollars a month, so that was relevant to my interests and I signed up, then watched a movie.

There was another popup "ad-free experience is not available for this program"

I immediately cancelled, the popup should say "here's an ad, fuck you"

[–] damnthefilibuster@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Why were you watching it? It's a shit... show!

No but seriously... sail, people!

Now is a great time to look into VPNs, 1337x, and qBittorrent. And of course Jellyfin.
