Am American. Moved to the Netherlands in July. My salary went down some, and the taxes are higher, but structural differences mean that I'm paying a lot less out of pocket on essentials like healthcare and transportation, which translates into the same, if not better, net take home pay.

MODERATORS
Even if it weren't cheaper, having decent public transportation, universal healthcare, fewer mass shootings, and proportional representation seem like they would be worth it.
Although the rising of the far right, weakening of the gdpr, chat control, and the threat of Americanization (huge trucks, worse food regulation, kowtowing to tech giants) does make things just slightly less appealing.
