From the great movie-makers who brought you The Sound of Freedom and a baker's dozen movies about the Bible. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Studios#Production_library

As a reminder:

Angel, previously Angel Studios, previously VidAngel, was founded by Latter-Day Saint family (Mormon) members to produce content that was suitable to show their kids. They later made a business out of editing Hollywood films to allow viewers to skip or mute scenes they found objectionable (without the consent of the rights-holders), and got their pants sued off for it.

After a series of mergers, it's now a publicly traded company worth over $1.5 billion and continues to produce content that aligns heavily with religious and faith-based causes.

Their blockbuster title "Sound of Freedom" is, curiously enough, a story intended to be a hagiography of Tim Ballard, a man with numerous sexual misconduct allegations

And now they're making a movie about "King David". Don't even get me started on that creep.

The graphic novel by Kyle Baker was excellent:

This...does not spark joy. It's just a trailer, but it seems like it completely misses the point of the original book.

At best, maybe it could be salvaged if it turns out to be a reimagining that satirizes corporatization (given Napoleon's techbro CEO aesthetic)...but the "ages 11 and up" disclaimer really doesn't inspire confidence.

It echoes the old 1954 animated film practically to the point of plagarization, at least at the start. By the end its drifting off into 1984 territory.

Given the folks making them movie have a history of heavy handed adaptations of Bible stories, I suspect we're going to get some Ayn Rand tier monologuing at multiple points in the film. Wouldn't bank on it being "salvaged" in any meaningful sense. This is going to be pure slop. I suspect it'll make for some entertaining memes, though.

Lemme guess, they revised the plot to denounce communism instead of Stalinism
