During WW2, IKE WON THE WAR IN EUROPE. ROME ITSELF WAS IN ALLIED HANDS. IT WAS RIGHT THERE, RIPE FOR THE TAKING!
He didn't even take the opportunity to sack Rome when conquering it. Barbarians are weird.
