It is incredible how well this works and how well it has worked for hundreds of years.

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago

We should really know better by now...

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So this is the new version of

pitchforks vs torches

?

And that's how chemically lobotomised many have become, that that's sufficient to trick them?

We are in a lot of trouble. Dangerous idiots abound.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oh you don't need to fight them, you just need to corner them into working jobs that drain all their mental and physical energy and barely pay them enough to survive.

One human is smart while a lot of humans are mere herd animals. So called group thinking. Happens in social media too btw.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 day ago

Mattias Desmet's book, The Psychology of Totalitarianism, is handy for understanding how this happens.

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. - Lyndon B. Johnson

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (3 children)

What if we eat the billionaires? I’m not saying we should, just wondering what if.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 day ago

We would get very sick.

[–] tjoa@feddit.org 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yknow, we would only need to eat a single billionaire. The rest will fall in line :)

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'll fire up the grill

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

You can't stop at just one. ;)

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 11 points 2 days ago

This is the kind of comment that got me banned permanently from Reddit haha

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago

The guy in the fancy suit looks different from me.

[–] slaacaa@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Weird logic, those billionaires like Alex "I've got rectal worms" Karp or Jeff Bezos or Musk certainly don't look like anyone I know.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Okay, but billionaires don't look anything like me so...

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

I think they are actually lizards.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 2 days ago

Hell, a few of them don't even look human.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Notch and GabeN look more like me than most of them.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's missing the 5th and 6th panels where no one from the left talks to him at all and he just stands there, soaking it in.

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

And humour or insight?

If each panel was a post in a Lemmy thread, they would all have zero upvotes and zero down votes, because no one else would have read it.

[–] MoribundMurdoch@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just because one does not blame billionaires as the root cause of problems does not mean they are inclined to automatically blame those who look different from them, whether in terms of gender, ethnicity, nationality, or whatever.

[–] MoribundMurdoch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What do you mean by "Do tell"?

[–] Ougie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Feels like you have a different take so I'd like to hear it.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

No! That guy has no money! The billionaires have money! Fuck the billionaires!

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago

Kay, is that you? You do look different.

On the one hand I like and respect Gabe for staying relatively down to Earth.

But on the other Steam is the DRM that prevents people from owning what they bought and the dude has a fricking yacht. "But he eaaarned it waaah", yeah, and how did he earn it? I refer you back to the previous point.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Games that dont use steam features (like steams multiplayer) arent required to use DRM (so games like Celeste still work without steam)

I think there are way worse things he has done/allowed than DRM

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

relatively down to Earth
Billionaire

… Say that again.

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you know what the word relatively means?

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Entertain me your definition on how a billionaire relatively humbles themselves “down to Earth.

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What kind of garbage definition is that lmao. Not your fault I know you didn't write the fucking dictionary but what the hell. Here is one that doesn't use its own fucking root to define itself.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you click into it and read right through, you may find it a more sensible and robust definition than the cambridge one with all its "gooder" and "badder". ;)

Neither are great though.

Definition 2 is the closest to the way that relatively is used in most speech and it still uses "relation" in its definition. I don't love the Cambridge one but it is better than the MW one.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

… So, what are you trying to compare here?
I am aware you're not palordrolap@fedia.io

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh shit you weren't just being an asshole throwing out definitions to prove a point, my bad for assuming the worst.

He [Gabe] is relatively [in comparison to other billionaires] down to earth.

Its not a high bar but he does pass it especially if you're only comparing to the more well known billionaires.

Some people can and have interpreted me calling their source bad a personal call out. I've done that before, honestly it's not a great thing to do but emotions exist.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
  1. Why do folks assume I want to be an asshole in a community created to be silly and merry‽

I am an anarchist, for goodness gracious. I initialize all my conversations in neutrality until proven otherwise.

When I am in this community, I comprehend folks come here jovially, with the intent to entertain.

He [Gabe] is relatively [in comparison to other billionaires] down to earth.

Yeah HOW? He is a scumbag authoritarian. He sents talent to deathcamps. He drowns people in the Pacific. HOW does that compare to other “down to Earth” bourgeois oppressors?

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Of ALL the billionaires in the world, Gabe Newell is possibly the least egregious.

That said. He's going to the guillotine with the rest of them.

[–] kyub@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 days ago

Kind of true, although for many, the comic starts at the 3rd panel.
