According to the statement, Putin will attend a forum in Ashgabat dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
The Russian president will also hold several bilateral meetings. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented earlier that Putin is scheduled to meet with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The International Year of Peace and Trust was proclaimed during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
The corresponding resolution received the support of 86 countries. The initiative seeks to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among nations.
Turkmenistan is a country with neutral status enshrined in its constitution. This status was first recognized internationally in 1995.
In 2017, at Ashgabat’s urging, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming December 12 as the International Day of Neutrality.
