At this point I don't want him impeached. I want his dementia to keep spiraling off the cliff and I want to see this country drug into the fucking dirt. There's no way we turn around without hitting rock bottom.
Agree
Again, for the 1000'th time. The democrats and republicans are on the same side. The side of the rich.
Our mistake was letting people and corps get too damn rich. So rich that it invalidates democracy.
How old was everyone when they realized it's two wings of the same bird?
Does the principle of "you can only be tried once for each crime" apply? If so, maybe it's smarter not to waste impeachable offenses until there's a chance for it to pass.
At the rate he's making them, I'm pretty sure they could introduce a new one every day.
As if anyone needed more evidence that the Dems are a joke and nothing more.
The resolution was shelved following a 237-140 vote, with 47 Democratic lawmakers voting present
Significantly more democrats voted to impeach.
Something apple something bunch
Something baby something bath water.

You're limiting yourself. I would add republicans to that list, maybe even most of humanity. We are all silly humans thumping our chest over a cause.
Unfortunately for people like me, the Republicans are relatively effective at doing what they say they will. Even though the current administration is horrible, and incompetent, and absolutely dropping the ball at every turn, I have to give Trump an A for effort at least. The man is absolutely not just resting on his laurels (a fact I lament daily).
But Clinton was impeached for a BJ, seriously?! America is so fucked!! Time to CLEAN HOUSE!!!
Not even for the BJ, for lying about the BJ.
Yet, this president has lied more times than I can even count first term and now this term. It’s honestly embarrassing how much they try to distract us from the release of the files and then release some heavily redacted because they probably are all in them and that just shows how messed up and corrupt our government is. These government officials are NOT in it for the people anymore. They’re in it for themselves and their pockets. It’s savage. We need to clean house of all of them!!!!
Lying under oath was by far the biggest issue on that.
Clinton was impeached for perjury when he was testifying as defendant in a sexual harassment inquiry. We'd be in a better position now if he'd seen some consequences for that.
But shouldn’t Trump be impeached for the same thing when he said that he didn’t know what was going on.. Yet he visited the island and was literally charmed up with Jeff either way both presidents are in the wrong, but only one will ever be impeached for what truly happened, in the fact that Trump what’s friends with Jeff and then pretended he wasn’t when there is actual photographic evidence of said friendship who has to say what’s worse (both are horrible), either way Trump was associated with a sex trafficker plus, we already know that Trump is a manipulative, liar, and will lie and try to lie his way out of anything, but the proof is there in photos. You can redact and distract people all you want, but photos don’t lie!
The main problem is the media being owned by billionaires. That’s the real problem in America.
I would argue that political parties being owned by billionaires is a problem of a greater scope and severity.
But shouldn’t Trump be impeached
Of course he should. And if we'd set a precedent back then by holding Bill Clinton accountable maybe it would be easier to do that nowadays. That's my entire point. Did you even read my post or did you just immediately kneejerk go into "what about" mode?
impeachement was spearheaded none other than NEWT GINGRICH, who also is the brainchild to never work with the other side.
Of course!!! 🙄 and with billionaires on both sides, nothing will ever come to justice. These people aren’t working for the people anymore and they’re working for themselves!! just like the billionaire owned media!
“My donors don’t think it would be a good idea for my party to be in power.”
It's funny looking back and thinking about how I used to assume that the opposing party would rain down hellfire on a President that abused his office, thus decorum would keep power in check.
It wasn't ever actually true when I was a kid and it's extremely obvious now that was always theater. There's almost no one in office with morals, ethics, or courage. It's a generally craven career full of spineless sycophants and opportunists.
There are a few decent people who aren't just pretending to care about the people they work for. But in general it's a scam, an orphan crushing machine operated by corrupted weirdos.
I know they have their little justifications behind the scenes. No one will remember them. They'll just say "Democrats failed to vote in favor of impeachment against the most transparently corrupt President in U.S. history."
They've been choosing to fail then turning around and asking for money to help them weigh their choice between failing and cosplaying bravery (as a treat) for my entire life.
Then half the legislation they do get through is as bad as if it was written by the other side...
It's been absurdly consistent.
They emphasized: “Impeachment is a sacred constitutional vehicle designed to hold a corrupt executive accountable for abuse of power, breaking the law and violating the public trust.”
“None of that serious work has been done, with the Republican majority focused solely on rubber stamping Donald Trump’s extreme agenda. Accordingly, we will be voting ‘present’ on today’s motion," they continued.
Jesus Christ we are about to go to war with Venezuela for fucking oil where potentially tens of thousands of people, including Americans, will die and these motherfuckers are still coming up with excuses. Y'all keep bitching about Trump's overreach yet have done fuckall to do anything about it besides bitch and complain that you are powerless.
But he's the president of peace, right?
“I think you would have to have an investigation where you actually talk to witnesses and review documents and look at, you know, video and listen to audio. You need to do all of that before any decisions are made,” he said.
…then how about we start doing that one of these days, maybe??
It wouldn't have passed either way, but ffs have some spine.
If they had a spine the Dems would have fucking slammed Repubs for Jan 6th when Biden was in office. They did not. They are garbage "leaders" doing little more than sustaining the status quo in between Republican run terms that fuck things up even more. The whole lot of them need to be put to pasture right alongside the republicans. USA does not need peaceful protest. It needs fucking blood, of both politicians and CEOs.
But it's not happening, so we're all gonna sit here and just watch this shit get worse.
I hope that future generations use the name Garland to represent the biggest fucking coward a person could possibly be.
The Controlled Opposition Party strikes again. Can't wait for them to write another strongly worded letter while begging for more donations smh.
chuck with his" we will continue support the left of israel/businesses"
no list of who voted present.
JFC.
He was impeached twice in his first term and it didn't really do shit. I don't think a 3rd time will matter.
You can’t get a conviction without an impeachment.
Cant get one with an impeachment lol
They should have at least gone on record as voting to impeach him.
People forget that impeachment has two parts One of them is to express disapproval of the president's conduct as un-American and inappropriate, and the other is to remove him from office. Clinton was impeached but was not removed from office. This used to be a big deal but Republicans turned it into a joke.
The fact that they are turning fundamental components of the governments internal functions into dismissible jokes is all the more reason people need to show what side of the line they stand on.

wtf lemmy
What does "voting 'present'" mean?
I'm guessing it is a bit like abstaining but with some sort of special meaning in the house?
I think it has to do with a bit of history that I'm going to recount very poorly from a book my father had that I tried to read called Congressional Anecdotes. The author of this book tried to sound smarter than he was by using complicated sentences, euphemisms and odd turns of phrase, so I eventually gave up, but I got a couple chapters in.
Apparently, in the early days of congress, the rule was you needed a quorum. You needed either most or all of congress to be there to hold a vote. So if a few congressmen didn't want a bill to pass, they'd just...not show up for the vote. Which essentially meant congress never achieved anything ever. This wasn't a law, it was a House rule. So at one point, the speaker was calling a vote, started to take a roll call, and when several members were apparently absent, he said "Well we'll just mark them down as abstaining in absentia then." and held the vote with the members present.
