Does the principle of "you can only be tried once for each crime" apply? If so, maybe it's smarter not to waste impeachable offenses until there's a chance for it to pass.

Unfortunately for people like me, the Republicans are relatively effective at doing what they say they will. Even though the current administration is horrible, and incompetent, and absolutely dropping the ball at every turn, I have to give Trump an A for effort at least. The man is absolutely not just resting on his laurels (a fact I lament daily).

Clinton was impeached for perjury when he was testifying as defendant in a sexual harassment inquiry. We'd be in a better position now if he'd seen some consequences for that.
But shouldn’t Trump be impeached for the same thing when he said that he didn’t know what was going on.. Yet he visited the island and was literally charmed up with Jeff either way both presidents are in the wrong, but only one will ever be impeached for what truly happened, in the fact that Trump what’s friends with Jeff and then pretended he wasn’t when there is actual photographic evidence of said friendship who has to say what’s worse (both are horrible), either way Trump was associated with a sex trafficker plus, we already know that Trump is a manipulative, liar, and will lie and try to lie his way out of anything, but the proof is there in photos. You can redact and distract people all you want, but photos don’t lie!
The main problem is the media being owned by billionaires. That’s the real problem in America.
I would argue that political parties being owned by billionaires is a problem of a greater scope and severity.

There's a reason pretty much every organization in the world has written rules regarding the relationships between its members, especially when there are power imbalances. I can't think of a bigger possible power imbalance than the US President and an intern.
And it goes the other way too. What if Lewinsky had been an intelligence asset for a foreign nation? Or even if she was just a lobbyist for some special interest group?
The US was lucky that Lewinsky was a victim of sexual harassment and not a fucking spy. She was demonized so heavily in the aftermath she literally moved out of the country.
So yes, he lied but so did Trump (as we have learned hundreds, if not thousands of times he is a manipulating liar). He legit in his entire cabinet of crazy people are hands down not letting the files come out without being heavily redacted because almost all of them will be in trouble for what they did to under aged girls! Deflection deflection deflection, and the media won’t show it because they’re owned by the billionaires in the pockets of Trump.
Trump has lied numerous times about knowing about what was going on on the island yet he went there and there are pictures of him being charmed up with Jeff,so how is that better than Clinton lying about whatever he did, than hardcore proof evidence of Trump being affiliated with a sex trafficker?!?? Two wrongs don’t make a right, therefore, Trump should be impeached for that as well, but won’t because the Republicans will never let that pass so how is that justice?
Honestly, the entire Trump cabinet should be impeached and removed for a lot more than what Clinton did so seriously what the fuck is happening in America?!?! we are in a spiral of misinformation and no information due to the fact that the news outlets are owned by billionaires!

Lewinsky was never investigated as to her status as an intelligence asset, or if she was it was never made public. For me it is plausible, though probably not probable that she was a spy. She certainly could have been though, this was at the end of the Cold War and there was talk at the time that her family being from a Warsaw Pact country made it a possibility she was at least, leveragable - all just rumors but curious to think about in my opinion.

It's not undermining what Clinton did, dork. It's highlighting how far our government has fallen that it won't hold Trump and his admin to any sort of responsibility for much more egregious acts against the country as a whole. It's all dog and pony show now.

Yet, this president has lied more times than I can even count first term and now this term. It’s honestly embarrassing how much they try to distract us from the release of the files and then release some heavily redacted because they probably are all in them and that just shows how messed up and corrupt our government is. It's funny looking back and thinking about how I used to assume that the opposing party would rain down hellfire on a President that abused his office, thus decorum would keep power in check.
It wasn't ever actually true when I was a kid and it's extremely obvious now that was always theater. There's almost no one in office with morals, ethics, or courage. It's a generally craven career full of spineless sycophants and opportunists.
There are a few decent people who aren't just pretending to care about the people they work for. But in general it's a scam, an orphan crushing machine operated by corrupted weirdos.
I know they have their little justifications behind the scenes. No one will remember them. They'll just say "Democrats failed to vote in favor of impeachment against the most transparently corrupt President in U.S. history."

People forget that impeachment has two parts One of them is to express disapproval of the president's conduct as un-American and inappropriate, and the other is to remove him from office. Clinton was impeached but was not removed from office. This used to be a big deal but Republicans turned it into a joke.
The fact that they are turning fundamental components of the governments internal functions into dismissible jokes is all the more reason people need to show what side of the line they stand on.
What does "voting 'present'" mean?
I'm guessing it is a bit like abstaining but with some sort of special meaning in the house?
I think it has to do with a bit of history that I'm going to recount very poorly from a book my father had that I tried to read called Congressional Anecdotes. The author of this book tried to sound smarter than he was by using complicated sentences, euphemisms and odd turns of phrase, so I eventually gave up, but I got a couple chapters in.
Apparently, in the early days of congress, the rule was you needed a quorum. You needed either most or all of congress to be there to hold a vote. So if a few congressmen didn't want a bill to pass, they'd just...not show up for the vote. Which essentially meant congress never achieved anything ever. This wasn't a law, it was a House rule. So at one point, the speaker was calling a vote, started to take a roll call, and when several members were apparently absent, he said "Well we'll just mark them down as abstaining in absentia then." and held the vote with the members present.
