Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

"But, but, but, I heard there was going to be a bunch of naked underage girls..."

"No, that's Jeff's island. That guy is a weirdo freak. I just want to hunt you to the death."

[–] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Getting taken to an eccentric rich person's island and being relieved it's just a hunt to the death.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 4 points 4 hours ago

Everything is a hunt to the death if you are uncooperative enough.

This might need to be updated. Nowadays a "millionaire" is someone who will be able to retire.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

The difference between a millionaire and a billionaire, is about a billion dollars. To a billionaire, a mere millionaire is as much a pauper as the rest of us. When the time comes, they'll have millionaire jerky on their charcuterie board, along with everybody else.

An eccentric millionaire?
What are they going to do, stroke their cat laughing maniacally while they read the notice of a fine from their HOA?

[–] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 69 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love how perfectly this captures the reality that being a millionaire in today’s America is somehow both a very privileged position and just barely above being utterly destitute.

~We’re so cooked…~

we're so cooked

checks climate

Yep. But they will be too, so at least we won't be hungry

what kind of toxic waste is GBNews though

[–] Pringles@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, not the best source, but this was reported in many outlets including thegaurdian, nytimes and bbc.

[–] cliffracer_cloaka@piefed.social -1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Irrelevant to my comment (reading comprehension!).

Then they should've used those sources 😉

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You do know that you are legally allowed to seek out your own sources, right?

[–] cliffracer_cloaka@piefed.social -1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Now that's one cute sea lion there. Got some daily mail as well? 😊

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, you should keep on complaining about other people instead of learning to do things for yourself.

[–] cliffracer_cloaka@piefed.social -1 points 4 hours ago

You're weirdly invested in this. Here: L.

It's yours, have a wonderful weekend 🥰

a millionaire would never agree to a game where they could lose, theyr're cowards like that

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

That's why they're doing it on an island

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 61 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My parents are millionaires, all it means in 2025 is that you can retire.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 50 points 1 day ago

That does mean a lot, ask the elderly working at Walmart.

[–] whosepoopisonmybuttocks@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're gonna need more than 1 million.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Only planning on being retired for like, 19 days.

I get the point you're making but to be fair I'm pretty sure General Zaroff did very much lose the game.

(Maybe we should take inspiration from how that story ends)

Many of us are also really interested in whatever Knife Monopoly is.

The rules are pretty easy, one player gets a monopoly on knives and the other players are hunted for sport

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

The one Archer quote I still remember is when someone tells him that they're going to play the most dangerous game, and Archer is like, "jai alai?"

[–] 1egg4u@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why stop there when we can have knife jenga and knife twister

[–] Atlusb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Left foot, switch blade, red, left most piece third from the bottom.

[–] halvar@lemy.lol 7 points 1 day ago

"We can get back to knife monopoly as soon as im done hunting you"
