I can't unsee the misspelling. What's the status of those smiling blades?

11 days in limbo and counting since leaving Osaka and no tracking update since. I've had this before with mail from Japan. It's a test of patience and I'm not a patient man 😀

Oh, I understand! I have two custom razors that I want to have made, but I'm waiting on the tariff situation to settle. That's taking more than patience!

I am the proud recipient of the 2025 Adventus Calendar from u/cowzilla3. This set easily eviscerates PAA's advent calendar. So much thanks to cowzilla3 for this generous gift.

So, I'm a bit late getting started. I'm pausing my sample massacre. I know I could fast forward the calendar to sync with the world calendar, but I'm not going to do it. Each day is mostly in a satchel/bag. I'm only opening one per day.

Adventus Day 1

Today, I got a Timeless unbreakable bowl. It's made of pretty thick blue plastic (maybe injection molded?). Built in swirls, narrower and taller than my normal Captain's Choice.

I got a sample labeled Soap Commander. I'm not sure which one. To my nose it's sort of in the Cella direction. My wife says "it smells... Clean."

Results were great. The bowl helped me whip up the lather quickly. It did steal a bit of the soap in the swirl corners. The soap was super slick but started giving out in pass 3. I recovered easily whipping it up in the bowl. BBS result with no nicks or irritation.

Have a good day!

  • Brush: Maggard Razors - Tuxedo 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: RazoRock GOAT
  • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (2)
  • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Down at the River - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive - Balm

Central Texas Soaps was a killer deal. 5oz of soap for something like $13, and the base is great. It takes lots of water and slickness is a top priority for it. Being able to load it up with water really helps soften up the whiskers in my opinion!

I heard that Hamam(i) is on the outs. It's one of my all time favorite wetshaving scents. Putting a stock photo of it below as a test for PieFed->Zulip crossposting.

I am less enthusiastic about the scent, but the label is one of my favorites

  • Brush: Zenith/Stirling - 510SE-XL 31mm Boar
  • Razor: Atelier Durdan Horizon
  • Blade: Schick Proline (1)
  • Lather: Stirling - Lampasas - Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Lampasas - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Roam Two - EdT

First shave with the passaround Horizon went exceedingly well. Super smooth shave on setting 4 with no nicks or irritation. Also my first time using an AC razor. The width of the head was a little odd at first, but I adjusted pretty quickly. Great shave all around.

Lampasas is one of the scents Stirling released for Black Friday this year. It's like a toned-down Texas on Fire, with a bit more woodiness and sage underneath. The notes they give it are Texas cedarwood oil, sweetgrass, sage, and mesquite smoke. I very much enjoy the scent -- just the right amount of smoke for me.

Have a great Saturday!

  • Brush: Brad Sears Scotsman XL 28mm Super Badger
  • Razor: H.M. Christensen 5/8 Hollow Ground Square Point
  • Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra - Blas de Lezo - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
  • Aftershave: Noble Otter - Ace - Aftershave

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I had a very relaxed luxury shave this afternoon. The Los Jabones de Joserra soap base is low volume, slick and creamy. The fragrance (oak, smoke, tobacco, leather) is suits me for this time of year. NO Ace complemented it well
