There's plenty of nonprofits that solely exist to fundraise and toss a few leftovers to their chosen cause after the execs get paid and the party bills get covered, but among those that are actually trying to accomplish something there's a cultural tendency to underpay and overwork staff, so you often end up with high burnout rates and people leaving for the private sector. It turns out that when people running an org aren't constantly broke and stressed out, the org does better.
