How the hell am I supposed to use the weird chain weapons, like the sickle with the ball and chain? Do I hold the sickle and swing the ball? Do I hold the ball and swing the sickle? I feel 12 all over again.

That didn't feel very fair. Reminds me of why I always play with an archer build. Just stay away from that nonsense.

Yeah, it reminded me of one of those Taekwondo safety videos where the opponent isn't allowed to do anything to stop them. A shield or some armor would easily negate them swinging the ball end around. A properly timed charge probably could to. Just body-blocking it probably wouldn't be that big of a deal.

They mostly weren’t used in combat since you could hurt your allies with it. It was used to chase away bandits or thieves. They are also called kusarigama (sickle-ball).

I want to see a "Kung Fu Hustle" scenario of somebody confidently picking up the kusarigami, twirling it like a boss, then a short time later managing to get themselves completely wrapped up in the chain, dangling helplessly from a nearby hook.

Pretty sure stuff like that's been done many times in animation, but a live version would be welcome!

I like how humans tend to make similar tools of warfare, no matter where we are! Also that Jitte had me cocking my head though.

The universality of the human desire to stab a motherfucker.

Ah okay, gotcha.

Boy, wikilunking about Japanese swords is hard. There's so much new and foreign terminology. 🫨🤯

I too use a cricket bat to fend off intruders.

So in 1980s Monkey, Sandy had some sort of Nari Yari, Su Yari combination? I never understood the point of the crescent-shaped end
