A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

...Why is Franklin using a Russian RPG from a Huey when he should be sitting in a cushy Langley office controlling the drone launching Hellfire missiles at passing recreational sailors?

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 57 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Why is Franklin using the cabin of the helo as a backblast area?

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

He yelled "backblast clear", so they should be good.

Edit: Your hearing loss is not service related.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

"Clear Backblast!"

everyone jumps out of the huey

[–] BearGun@ttrpg.network 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Including the pilot, and Franklin goes down with the chopper like he deserves

There's also a muzzle flash, which isn't how an RPG works.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Someone should submit all these comments as ‘community notes’.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

That would actually be a genius move. Make a post about all the dangers of using an RPG in this way, as well as the technical inaccuracy of the muzzle flash.

[–] absentbird@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Because it's slop.

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, I know this one: Because he's an idiot.

At least he got the orientation right. I've personally seen several Russian soldiers who didn't.

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Personally? The only way...gasp! J'accuse!

[–] garth@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sitting at a desk all day, starting at screens, can become so banal. Variety is the spice of life, no? If you aren't using black-market RPGs to blast vaguely identified boats from the open side of a Vietnam-era helicopter then are you even living?

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 4 points 2 weeks ago

Well, no. Not to worry though: I'm Danish, so I'll be catching RPG's strapped to Russian FPV drones with my face soon enough.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 17 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know about you but I can't even get erect unless I see the life fade from someone's eyes in person.

[–] Estiar@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Those offices are not cushy. The fan never works properly. The AC makes it so it has 10000 ft of temperature difference in 10 feet. And can someone bring me another frappachino?

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 7 points 2 weeks ago

"This chair isn't upholstered in real leather! I demand a refund!"

"We... pay you to be here."

"Good point! I demand a raise!"

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Let the guy have some fun for once.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

When did Franklin grow to Gamera-esque proportions?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

We don't body shame here

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

Turtles are held to such ridiculous standards.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 51 points 2 weeks ago

I hope the authors sue the fuck out of them.

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 38 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Actually a very unlikely picture as Franklin is a Canadian children story series. Multiple books have circulated for decades. So unlikely that a Canadian character would be performing murders on behalf of the fascist regime headquartered in Peter Teels mansion.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 18 points 2 weeks ago

Well...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_and_the_Iraq_War

"Lower than most" isn't "none" after all.

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, this is more something you’d find in a Sweet Pickles book.

[–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

AI cannot figure out perspective

[–] NotSafeForWorld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Or it can, and it's just a colossal turtle

[–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

lol you made me stare at the image for a minute trying to re-register anything on the helicopter as well aligned, but just massive, and my brain couldn't work in it

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm going to focus my nitpick to:

Clear Backblast?

... everyone in that huey now has a concussion, at best.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The pilots are wearing helmets and hearing protection, plus the windows are down.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

Cool!

Doesn't matter, not with the rear of the rpg being angled more or less directly at the roof.

If it was being held horizontally?

Yeah maybe different story.

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

🙋‍♂️ What does ~~God~~ a turtle need with a ~~starship~~ bulletproof vest?

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Shells can cause shrapnel.

[–] supamanc@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

You deserve more for this!

[–] Zidane@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

Probably has to set foot in a public American school

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 12 points 2 weeks ago

Funny coincidence:

Franklin's theme song is by a French Canadian artist named Bruce Cockburn (...pronounced co-burn) who also has a wonderful song called "If I had a Rocket Launcher"

[–] leavemealone@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

It would have been better if on the boat where simple fishermen.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago
