1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I buy exactly what I will eat for the week, and eat it all. I don't waste any food. At the end of seven days, my refrigerator is nearly empty, except for things that last me more than one week, like milk.

Kinda uncool to post this and not tell us the meal, OP!

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

Totally. I was addressing OP!

Fun fact: humans have everything the human body needs.

And is it the same meal three times a day? And how do they drink milk that's over a week old and not vomit?

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Milk keeps fresh for more than two weeks if you keep the container closed, doesn't it? And after opening one container you simply use it up within several days where it stays fresh.

Never had a problem with that.

I buy 3 one litre bags of milk every two or three weeks and they last just fine, what kind of milk are you drinking?

[–] spankinspinach@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

For those not in the know, eastern Canada has bagged milk. Look it up. I know of nowhere else that does this

[–] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

The upper portion of the Midwest US used to, specifically kwik trip gas stations. They have their own line of goods, and until like 2 yrs or so ago that included bagged milk. Very disappointing it’s no longer available. They said it wasn’t worth replacing the old bagging machine.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Germany had them until the 80s. Cool concept with less trash.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

Do you open all three bags when you get them and then keep using them for three weeks? I'm going to guess no, that you instead open them one at a time and use each one within a week of opening.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 3 weeks ago

Milk usually lasts just over a week...

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Could be UHT?

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Sadly, I do not know the answer to either question. Hopefully OP comes through.

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I bought fresh milk today, the use-by date is 11 December. It'll still be fine by then. It only goes off if you leave it out of the fridge.

I like your tiles. I even bought a t-shirt with one on it!

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you! I actually got the username from something else, but the tiles are super interesting.

I’ve been eating tomato soup for lunch every day for what feels like at least a year simply because I went to medieval times and they gave me tomato soup and I liked it

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Tomato soup was never a thing for me.

First time I had it was after a root canal. Made a grilled cheese, cut it into small cubes, tossed them into a bowl and poured hot tomato soup over it.

I had a mouthgasm. Pizza soup.

I think I try it again about once a month.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I'm almost the exact opposite, if I have the same meal two days in a row I'm not going to want it again for a couple of weeks.

I know it's kinda against the spirit of this community, but if you reject enjoying the sheer variety of food this world has to offer, I can't help but feel you're missing out on one of the greatest joys of life.

I'm curious do you not get cravings for stuff? I know I'm deficient in B-vitamins if I'm suddenly craving Marmite, for example

[–] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

As someone who loves food, I agree with you.

Food is my #1 carnal pleasure, and I like to have meals that are varied in taste and in texture. When I visit a foreign country, the biggest joy of the trip is sampling their food, and experiencing all the local flavours.

But, I understand that isn't the same for everyone. For some people food is just fuel, and they'd rather spend their energy on other things which matter more to them. I can't agree with that, but I do respect it.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

I am wondering that too, it must be a very well rounded meal. When my body tells me "go eat that" I take it as a sign that I really need some stuff.

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 15 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

If you don't have variety over time please be at least taking a multivitamin too. It's not perfect but it helps against nutrient deficiencies

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's meals that provide a wide range of nutrients probably enough to cover everything. Chicken curry (bell pepper, carrots, chicken breast, rice) could be one I think.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Potatoes and butter is enough.

[–] spankinspinach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

I guess the nutrient variety could be built into the repeat meals ?

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 10 points 3 weeks ago

Yup. My current every day meal plan:

  • Eggs, bacon, cheese, pico de gallo, avacado and flour/Greek yogurt bread

  • Greek yogurt, oatmeal, protein powder, sweetener, chocolate chips, blueberries

  • Cheese hamburger, ketchup/mustard, pico de gallo

This pretty much means my meal prep is making a batch of pico de gallo and processing 2 gallons of milk into Greek yogurt over the week.

The rest of the cooking I’ve got figured out with a microwave only and an oven for the bread.

I certainly won’t claim 4 years solid on it thought - so interested to here what your meal plan is. I can certainly go for months with the same thing and then maybe I’ll cycle in another meal and go for months with that.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I enjoy preplanning my food throughout the week and then going to the discounter exactly once a week and getting everything for the upcoming week in one strike. I cook big portions and shove parts of the food into the freezer. Fresh produce sometimes is a problem to keep fresh for a week in summer so that's when there may be a second short visit at the grocery department in such weeks. What I do different to your approach is that I cook a variety of meals because I enjoy preparing them and eating them.

Mastering the schedule and the shopping makes me feel good and proud of myself. It's important to me.

[–] psivchaz@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

I do this but with two trips exactly because of produce and such. I try to do a lot of fresh vegetables so like half my cart is usually produce but then I had to throw things away too often. Two trips seems like the minimum.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago

Is been way too long since this was posted without any update, what is the meal damnit!

[–] BartyDeCanter@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 3 weeks ago

So what’s the meal? When I lived alone I did a similar thing, but it was 3-4 meals.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Out of curiosity, and if it doesn't offend you, what's your ethnicity and cultural background?

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago

OP has given no clues as to the meal they are continuously consuming. Perhaps the commentor to whom you are responding is try to pry out some indication of at least the flavor palette OP is working with.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago

All hail the king.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

I hope you've done your research on the nutritional value of your unvarying meal. And do you only eat one meal a day? Or is there variety in other meals?

[–] abfarid@startrek.website 6 points 3 weeks ago

Isn't not wasting food the default? You don't have to eat the same meal all the time for that, you just buy what you intend to prepare/eat before it goes bad.

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago
[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Every time I try this, I immediately get bored of what I bought to eat the whole week. 😔

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

That's pretty Dull 👍

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It would be actually dull if you told us the meal

Hey, me too! Well not always 4 years but it has gone on that long before. I find something I like then just eat that same thing constantly. Shopping is easier that way too.

[–] Bo7a@piefed.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Damnit. what is the meal?

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

my boyfriend does this too lol. ill never understand

[–] BigTrout75@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure this efficient lifestyle turn my family against me. 🤔

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I need to do this myself.
