I really, really want a pair, but not if it's controlled by meta or google. I would only compromise if rooting and removing the built in spywear was an option.
I want to see more privacy-friendly options as well, Brilliant Labs is the best bet for now I think but this is still so cutting edge stuff that I think it'll take a while before we'll see more options for the average user.

Yeah I think the whole social acceptance of cameras on everyone's face is definitely still something that could end up causing issues for these devices. I've seen reports of people not being able to go to museums in Egypt while wearing Meta's glasses and Saudi authorities confiscating their glasses at the airport.
Yeah many smart glasses wearers, that actually need glasses, will need to carry around a set of dumb glasses so they can enter secure areas without being blind.
Or else they wear contacts behind their smart glasses?
Seems like that will be the case at least occasionally and in the beginning. If these become as common as smartphone cameras it might be too difficult to forbid them in some spaces though. Not being able to rely on them everywhere will probably have something to do with it if they don't.

AI is the problem now, not the solution, in many people's view.
I suppose they'll keep adding sugar to the shit till enough people eat it, then they'll take away the sugar.
For your second point I'd say it has been and continues to be taboo but it's still TBD whether the social pressure against these devices wins out or if people start just accepting it. These devices are less obvious than someone holding a phone to record and they try to reduce the concerns with the indicator light so I'm not sure how things will turn out especially since most people already accepted stuff like always on microphones and their exact location being recorded at all times.
I definitely agree with your first point as far as privacy concerns go. I've already seen Meta talk about how they'd like the cameras to just stay on permanently as soon as they have the battery life for that.
It seems like things are aligning so that smart glasses will be successful this time. With all the AI-powered features, audio, cameras, much better displays they have pretty compelling use cases. If they do become a major market I have no doubt that real AR will follow and it'll be faster than if this didn't end up happening.
