Gen Z and millennials are more into gig work than ever, BofA says — but it’s not coming close to making ends meet::Despite taking on more side hustles, Gen Z and millennials are spending less.

Saying Gen Z and Millennials are "more into gig work" is kinda like saying black people are "more into incarceration". I assure you, it is not indicative of a preference.

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 55 points 2 years ago

Yeah, it is bullshit. The correct way to say it is that Gen Z and Millenials are being fucked up by the system and exploited, and the gig work is often the only source of income they have.

Gen Z is into gig work like how the poor are into intermittent fasting.

“more into gig work”

You mean forced to accept worse working conditions because of the historical indifference to the working class by the people in charge, and the systematic dismantling of union power over the last 70 years?

More like forced into it by these multiple “once-in-a-lifetime” economic crisis.

BofA deez nutz!

Huh. It's almost like this country is a giant scam that crushes people at the bottom and only benefits the owners of these companies.

The job market is utterly shit right now, they frankly do not have a choice.

[–] jonne 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I don't think this is exactly by choice.

Can't wait for complaints that young people aren't spending enough in a few months.

Yes I’m working a gig job as a second job rn. Not because I’m into it or want to (though it is somewhat enjoyable relatively speaking), but because I need the few hundred dollars a month. Same reason I work at all. Not because I’m into it but because I need to.
