I would make sure to include that Elon Musk is an immigrant from Africa but otherwise, thats pretty much it

His family is so racist they left Canada for apartheid South Africa after a failed fascist plot. The apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Admittedly an illegal immigrant.

[–] frog@feddit.uk 32 points 2 months ago

The illegal immigrant that took billions of dollars of our tax dollars and destroyed thousands of American jobs.

Personally I don't think Musk knew about or controls these accounts. If he did he would never have allowed the location update to go through. These accounts are likely owned by various billionaires and Putin (a trillionaire).

I have been wondering where the “Elon paid these accounts” has come from. It does not seem to be reported on anywhere from a cursory search, but it’s being attached to this story like gospel. As if the actual story isn’t horrifying enough.

It really makes it evident that people are vulnerable to manipulation by social media regardless of their political standing.

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago

It's not that he paid them directly, but Twitter has a monetization feature for blue-check accounts where you can effectively get paid for engagement farming.

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

People's ass. Like this is something Musk would pay for. Musk, famous for not paying people...

It does raise the question of who is financing these accounts. Is it one of those skeevy conservative thinktanks that writes policies for politicians to rubber stamp? Is it the Republican party itself? Is it financed by the actual governments of the countries these accounts appear to be from as a way to try to encourage policy that benefits them? Is it the democratic party trying to create an easier target to attack (or even more insidiously, to create a more formidable opponent to lose elections to?) or is it just teenaged trolls trying to mess with people across the world for shits and giggles?

So just like "the deep state controlling America" the MAGA types are actually right about immigrants taking government handouts and ruining the country, they're just targeting the wrong people: Democrats instead of billionaires, and poor Mexicans instead of Elon Musk.

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nope, not Elon

It’s literally Russian hybrid warfare. Elmo is just enabling it.

[–] staph@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Weeeelll he might be just enabling it but I'm leaning towards him actively waging it.

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

He’s not that smart or political

On the other hand it’s quite literally straight from Russias strategy book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_generation_warfare?wprov=sfti1

All they needed was the word “that” after “afraid”. Now I have read this 10 times and it still doesn’t read correctly to me without inserting said word.

Probably just a side effect of how convoluted the statement is, despite how it describes the reality of that situation fairly accurately.

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 7 points 2 months ago

I believe he was an active participant

He pays them?
